The Millennium Development Goals and the objective to halve the proportion of people living in extreme poverty by 2015 has driven a number of regional and national initiatives focused on poverty eradication in Africa based on local needs and priorities.

Compassion International, one of the world’s largest Christian child development organizations, will invest USD 5 million over the next five years in fellow Christian microfinance institution (MFI) Opportunity International.
