The 21st Century Model For Achievement!
| |
| When it comes to achievement, I think a lot of people miss the fact that it's an uphill process. You have to climb the mountain first before you reach the peak. It's a journey that almost always involves obstacles. And, it involves doing what it takes to overcome the obstacles. So what's all the confusion? Why are there so many people proclaiming it's just not meant to be? Perhaps they don't understand exactly what uphill means? It's a metaphor for the obstacles and challenges that stand between you and a successful outcome. Listen closely and you'll often hear people who believe such roadblocks are not supposed to happen. I am amazed that in the 21st century there are still people who don't comprehend the fundamental process of achievement. More amazing is how many employers do not know how to hire employees who are ineffective at it. |

IF BAD HIRES SQUEAKED
| |
| March 2009 might seem like a rather odd time to write an article on hiring when so many companies are not. Determining the need to improve upon one's hiring process, and making the changes, is something that can be done right now. Marginal performers presently employed got there somehow. They weren't good hires that suddenly changed after their start date. Poor performance can be traced back to incorrect assessments and the ill-fated decision to hire. Typically companies address poor performance post-hire with employee counseling and discipline stopping short of fixing the real problem - how they got hired. This article will help you improve your hiring effectiveness. |

RESUME SCREENING - Picking the High Performers!
| |
| A high unemployment rate means lots of resumes and applicants for employers to screen but it doesn't mean it will be easier to pick out the high performers. Just the opposite in fact. Never before in history have job applicants been so hungry and so well-prepared to ace an interview. Information available on the Internet educates job seekers on what interview questions to expect, what type of answers WOW interviewers and what responses turn them off. Pair up these paycheck-hungry job candidates with an interviewer who has done nothing to improve his or her employee selection skills, or the fact that more than eighty percent of all interviewers have had little or no formal training on how to hire the best, and now you have a real formula for disaster as companies begin hiring post-recession. This perfect storm can be averted. |

The Interview Process in a Nutshell
| |
| Have you ever thought about the full cost of hiring a new employee? There are the obvious costs: placing an ad, the wages spent on time looking at resumes and conducting interviews, pre-employment physical, reference checks.
Then there are the less obvious costs: wages for training time of both the trainer and new employee, lost productivity while the position is vacant, lost productivity while the new employee learns and gets up to speed, the cost of mistakes.
When you add it all up it definitely motivates you to minimize employee turnover, doesn’t it? And there are many strategies an employer can utilize to create an environment that inspires employee loyalty. But the first and most important step is making the right hiring decision. |

8 Reasons You Are Not Getting a Job Offer
| |
| Are you really too old, too young, overqualified or lacking the right education? Is the deck really stacked against you? Not likely!! Chances are you only need to improve the way you present yourself.
Recently, a lady approached me after one of our seminar presentations on Career Management. She had been through 63 job interviews and wanted me to look at her resume to see what was preventing her from getting job offers. Hearing that she had 63 interviews let me know I did not need to look at her resume at all; it was doing an excellent job, getting interviews is the only purpose of a resume. So her problem was not in the resume, but something in her personal presentation.

Resumes that Boost Interview Performance
| |
| Your resume's primary job is to win you an invitation to an interview. But that's not all it can do. In this article I explain how a great resume increases your opportunity to shine in the interview.
Your worst enemy in a job interview is time. Therefore, making the most of the time allocated to the interview is critical to gaining a competitive edge. How do you want to be remembered by the interviewers? As the candidate with whom they spent 75 per cent of the precious, never to be repeated time clarifying your skills, experience and achievements? Or as the candidate with whom they had an in-depth discussion about your ability to contribute to the organisation's future success? |
|
|
How your Resume can Optimise Interview Time
| |
| The primary function of a resume is to secure an invitation to an interview. But that's not all it can do. It can also provide you with a competitive edge at the interview.
Because your worst enemy in an interview is time, optimising that limited time is critical. Many interviews devote 50% of more of the precious, never to be repeated time to clarifying your experience and achievements rather than being an discussion about your ability to contribute to the organisation. |

Is Your Self-Image Working For You?
| |
| Life sometimes throws us curve balls that we have to deal with-these are the "have-tos." Life becomes boring and difficult when you're only doing the things you have to do to get where you don't want to be.
If your Core Desire is to speak confidently in public, how do you acquire this ability? First, you've got to love what you are talking about, or at least have a great deal of interest in it. Knowledge is important, but it's not as critical. Another valuable way to exude a confident aura when speaking in public is to take your mind off your performance and put it on the gift in the message you are giving. If you believe in your message, have strong feelings about it, and are not focusing on how people might judge your performance, you will do just fine. |

The More You Give, The More You Get: How To Get Interviews With Experts In Your Niche
| |
| We all know what karma is. What goes around comes around... it’s the law of the universe. Simply put, the more you give, the more you get... or as Robert Cialdini puts it in the science of “Influence”, it’s the rule of reciprocity.
Now, we’ve all heard of reciprocity with our customers. Give them bonuses, surprise them, and as we’ve riffed on, basically delight the customer to get them to love you.
I realized then what we had been missing... we needed to delight our potential business partners too. So I put aside the time to study the course. Okay, I’ll admit... it did seem a bit dreary at first, listening to 12 hours of audio... but let me tell you it was well worth it in the end.
The more you give, the more you get indeed. That’s the power of karma. |

The interviewer asked Nadia’s coach about this, and the coach said, “In the past, Nadia had people around her that concentrated on what she ‘can’t do.’ So Nadia would concentrate on what she couldn’t do, especially in challenging situations on the court, and it would frustrate her. I am concentrating on what she ‘can do,’ and she is a much better, confident player and is mentally much happier.” |

How Marginal Employees Ace Interviews
| |
| In today’s highly competitive and turbulent business environment, hiring average employees can spell “failure”. That means, interviewers play a key role in the success, or failure, of their companies. That leads one to ask, "Why how do so many average and poor performers get hired, and so few High Performers?" Come to find out, many interviewers have had little or no formal training on how to hire the best. To make matters worse, the applicant has become interview-savvy. They have learned to maneuver through the interview by accentuating the positive and minimizing the negative, and getting the job offer. It's a very uneven playing field that does NOT favor the interviewer. But that can be turned around. Let's address interviewer training. Read on: |

Nailing A TV Interview
| |
| Print interviews are usually the easiest in terms of how you look and carry yourself. Those interviews are generally done over the phone. You could be in bed in your pajamas for all the interviewer knows. The same is often the case with radio. If you’re calling into the show, the interviewer has no idea what you look like, what you’re wearing, and if you’re in your living room or by the pool. Another upside of those types of interviews is that you can write out cheat sheets that you can refer to. But TV is a whole different animal. The following is your TV media appearance drill. |
