Learning Organizations is Action Oriented
Execute. Implement. Stop talking and do something. Actions speak louder than words. If you have a learning organization, it needs to be a doing organization too. No matter how you put it, the evidence is rolling in: The distinction between so called “old economy” and “new economy” companies are overblown. Regardless of industry, knowing what to do isn’t enough. Those companies and business units that dominate their competitors win by turning knowledge into action.

Out with the old and in with the new…
Common Communication Strategies It has been my experience over the last 10 years most corporate intranets are modeled in the following fashion; new information comes into the intranet group and is then coded and released for general consumption. Before information is released to the internal network it will go through a variety of checks and balances, approvals and re-edits, before finally “landing on the desk” of the intranet team. It is then coded and released in priority order. This model relies exclusively on the intranet team to get messages and information out to employees. Does this sound familiar?

Extranet Best Practices
An extranet is an extension of a company’s internal network that allows authorized users to access information in a secured manner. Public access can be given to employees, customers, partners, investors, or other key stakeholders. Extranets generally reside on a company’s private server rather than on a public Internet server. However, they use Internet protocols so users can navigate with a web browser. Access from the Internet can be controlled through various architectures that are username/password specific, thus limiting users to pages relevant to their needs, while keeping other areas of the extranet private and secure.

Intranet Best Practices
An Intranet, or ‘portal’, is similar to an Internet website except that it is restricted to users within an organization. (Intranets that extend outside the company to partners or customers are called Extranets). Intranets use web servers to distribute information, and users view content with their Internet browser or by downloading documents.

Intranets - A Place to Work, Not Search
While capabilities of intranets have evolved at an increasingly rapid pace to become a rich and holistic platform, some companies have been slow to respond and obtain the value that intranet software can provide – in short, businesses still view an intranet as a place to find information, rather than one in which their staff and partners will perform a significant amount of work.

The Importance of Relevance in Intranet Communications
The desire to leverage intranet communications is one of the principal reasons for intranet deployment in a wide range of companies. However, many intranet platforms do not allow companies to adjust communications permissions, or the messages are general - this lack of relevance to the end user significantly reduces the engagement generated from intranets, and lowers the value of the communication.

The Impact of an Intranet Platform on Organizational Culture for Medium-Sized Corporations
When developing a new intranet platform for any sized company, one must ensure that the company's organizational culture is taken into consideration, as modern intranets must have applications and interfaces that are aligned and will stand the maximum chance of being adopted by the target users. Ultimately, this ensures that the sponsors are pleased with the intranet platform project.

Partner Portal Navigation - How to Improve and Increase Partner Usage and Resulting ROI
Most manufacturers today provide their dealer partners with websites and web applications to assist them in their business. There can be systems for sales and pricing, parts ordering and tracking, warranty processing, online training, document storage and retrieval, and other unique applications developed by the company's IT group. But what you may not hear or see through surveys is whether your dealers are internally complaining about the "systems" and "websites" and "extranets" that they "must use" when they do business with you. And you know when they tell you "you're difficult to do business with," you have a problem.
