"Acceptance"... and growth
| |
| Acceptance simply means "EMBRACING WHAT IS". Acknowledging the "what is"...may include yourself, your spouse, significant other, job, house, health or a set of circumstances. With ACCEPTANCE, we embrace PEACE. And, it's in this peace that miracles happen.
For those of us that thrive on personal growth and are constantly looking for ways to improve, and better ourselves, the idea of "accepting" ourselves may feel like embracing "mediocrity" or "settling". Won't I get complacent if I totally accept myself? Will I lose my edge or drive? If I "accept" my significant other just as he/she is, does that mean I'm encouraging them to stop growing? NO. NO. NO. |

The Six Biggest Applicant Lies Encountered in Employee Screening

One small step for you: One giant leap for your Organization
| |
| Times are tough in the business world; very tough in some countries. Regular reports indicate that this is the worst Global Financial Crisis we’ve experienced since WW11. It has made leaders stop and rethink the way they have been doing things. It has made them reevaluate their systems and processes in order to ascertain just how successful they really are. Performance Development Programs (PDP’s) are one way that your organization can improve workplace productivity. Implementing new systems and processes is laborious at first; however setting up and using PDP’s is essential if you are serious about increasing business productivity. They don’t have to be complicated, in fact the simpler the better. When done properly they are a valuable resource for not only you but for your employees as well. |

You need one, I need one: we all need a break
| |
| In the current economic climate the mantra is to work harder and harder. This is a global phenomenon and we are told it regularly. There is no time for a break; you just have to keep pushing yourself. Everyone else is doing it - so of course you must follow suit. It's expected that this behavior will impact on productivity in all the right ways and that the organisation will go from strength-to-strength. Those in leadership are not immune from this pressure. It is not only difficult to continue to work harder and harder, it is impossible because there comes a point when the bone has no more meat on it. While sustainable for awhile, over time issues start to emerge. Pressured, exhausted leaders can experience a loss of confidence, self esteem, lack of clarity and mental and/or physical health issues can appear... |

Simple Tips For Internet Marketing Success
| |
| Working from home with your own successful business that is bringing in a salary more than your boss could ever offer you is considered a dream to most people. Many find it easier to go to work every day being told what to do for a fraction of their earning capacity as a '9-5 job' can become one's security blanket, being seen as much easier to earn 'a living' rather than to put some effort into research to make things happen with a successful business in which you could live in that dream reality. Success in this field takes motivation and persistence, but once mastered it will pay off and make a dramatic positive change to your quality of life. |

Clarity Through Panic
| |
| June ‘04. I had just quit my job selling mufflers at Midas. I went for 6 weeks without making a single dollar. It was one of those wonderful warm summer weekends you get in the Midwest… yet it was as though I couldn’t sleep, eat or breathe. The pit in my stomach grew daily, I was terrified. I took a leap of faith, quit a decent paying job, to pursue a full time career in online marketing and almost like a little bird who decides to jump out of the nest a just a couple days too early, only to find the ground is patiently waiting to reach up and smack him in the face. |

Business Plan and Implementation Principle 1
| |
| Let’s say you are my employee, and I ask you to build a puzzle of 1,000 pieces. The challenges are that there are no square edges, you cannot see the picture of what the puzzle will look like in the end, and most of the picture is pure black or white. Oh, and by the way, I am going to give you extra pieces. How motivated are you to build this puzzle for me? Welcome to the typical business. This is how the majority of employees feel in most organizations and why most employees only do the minimum expected to keep their job. |

TRUTH IN INTERVIEW - Part II
| |
| From PART I: Somewhere, we learned that if we hire an applicant with the skills we need, the results will be an employee who will do a great job. WRONG! Skills simply means the applicant can do the job, it does not mean they will do the job better than anyone else. Making hiring decisions based on skills leaves job performance a mystery until after the hire. Interview-savvy applicants have made it tougher for interviewers to accurately assess motivation, often causing the misjudgment to favor applicants who are NOT High Performers. |
|
|
What the High Performer DOESN’T Know!
| |
| In tough economic times, like we are experiencing right now, many people are still afraid of losing their job. For employers who must cut back, they have to choose who stays and who goes. For some companies, the deciding factor is based on performance - top performers get to stay. Right now could be the perfect time to learn how High Performers are able to produce better results. Interestingly however, it's what the High Performer doesn't know that just might provide the greatest insight. Whether you are a job seeker or an employer, understanding how the high performer is able to achieve better results while others are not is knowledge everyone should have. |

HIRE TOO FAST and / or FIRE TOO SLOW ©

I will never forget my wife’s question.” There are fundamentally 25 different ‘Behavioral Characteristics’ that once known will precisely prognosticate how a person will perform on the job. The results have nothing to do with intelligence, knowledge, experience, personality or education.

Don’t Let the Fear of Failure Limit Your Potential
| |
| I hear people all the time complain about their employment situation over and over. I know a few people who have had the same job since I've known them and even though they've stayed at the same place for as many as 30 years, every time I see them they tell me how much they hate their job. They complain about how their boss doesn't treat them right and about how tedious it is.
I don't get it!
Why would anyone stay in a situation that brings them nothing but unhappiness? I've even heard these same people tell me about how they are always looking but just can't find a job "as good as" the job they currently have.
Huh? Are they kidding? |

Owning a Small Business Can Be Like Living Alone On An Island
| |
| Can you remember when you decided to start your business? I am sure you felt the same nervous excitement I did!
I remember when I first told my plans to my Mom. She said, "That sounds exciting Pete, but wouldn't you rather get a job with a big company so you can work hard and have a pension some day?"
My response was, "No Mom, I don't want to be in a position where I know exactly what my paycheck is going to be each week." I wanted to know I had the ability to build something that would produce a large income, and perhaps one day I would build it to a point where I could sell it for enough money that I could retire to an island somewhere and drink pina coladas in the sun every day. |

Why is Getting a Good Night's Sleep so Important to Your Workday?
| |
| I used to have so much trouble sleeping. In 2008, when the economy starting going bad, it caused a lot of people to have sleepless nights. For our good health, we all need a certain amount of deep sleep every night to revive our bodies and minds. If you go long periods without sound sleep, it can seriously affect your health. I suffered the loss of my job. In the process of looking for work at home, I received a tremendous invitation and explanation of an Internet marketing business that also told those 50-60 K income stories but got past those "eye-catchers" and explained their business to me. No more sleepless nights for me except that I enjoy working at this business so much that I am not keeping regular 9-5 hours. I can work whenever and wherever I please. |

Mindset - How You Think will Always Determine Your Level of Success
| |
| Your mindset is the set of beliefs that you have that determines what actions you'll take in every situation every day. If you're a person who's content to work a job every day and go home and drink beer and watch television every night with no desire to better your circumstances, you'll probably never even see this article...so I'm not talking to those content to be drones. I'm talking to YOU. You who have a burning desire inside of you to be better, achieve more, have more success in life than you've ever had or can even imagine. I don't mean just financial success; I mean a successful LIFE. Financial success will be a by-product of your life's success if you can just get your mindset right. |

Love your job
| |
| Getting up and going to work each day is something that most of us do for many years. Yet few of us jump out of bed each and every day and can't wait to get there. It seems that we have to whine and moan about it to keep up with everyone else. It does not need to be like this and it is preferable that it isn't. When employees love what they do, they will go that extra mile for their boss and a far more positive culture will be created. This in turn can turn into increased productivity and profits. |

The Queen of Porn: The Early Years of Jenna Jameson
| |
| Most people know her name, although admitting to it is an entirely different matter. Jenna Jameson has gone from being a victim of abuse and a no-name stripper to one of the world’s most famous porn stars, and it is not just because she is good at her job. Jameson flexed her entrepreneurial muscle to create a porn empire. What began as her own simple website has morphed into Club Jenna, a full-fledged adult entertainment company with revenues of more than $30 million. But while she may now be the fantasy of boys and men around the world, Jameson’s early years were anything but dreamy. |
|
|
Lesson #1: Don’t Deny Your Passion
| |
| “My first six years in the business were hopeless,” said Lucas. “There are a lot of times when you sit and you say ‘Why am I doing this? I’ll never make it. It’s just not going to happen. I should go out and get a real job and try to survive’.” |
|
|
Lesson #5: Help Others to Help Yourself
| |
| “Any society begins by realizing that together, by helping each other, you can survive better than if you fight each other and compete with each other,” says Lucas. “We have the tendency to lose it when we forget that, as a group, we are stronger than we are as individuals.” |
|
|
Lesson #1: Be Fierce
| |
| “Always look out for yourself,” says Trump. Never one to back down from a challenge, Trump has made a career out of being ruthless when it came to his business. Trump realized early on that he would only reach the heights of success of which he dreamed if he was willing to tackle whatever or whoever stood in his way. He took no prisoners when it came time to make a deal and did whatever it took to get the job done. |
|
|
Lesson #1: Make Your Passion Your Life’s Work
| |
| “Without passion, work is just work, a chore,” says Stewart. “Passion is the first and most essential ingredient for planning and beginning a business.” |
|
|
Lesson #5: Know Your Enemy
| |
| “A man always has two reasons for doing anything,” Morgan believed. “A good reason and the real reason.” Morgan was a mastermind when it came to knowing and being able to read his enemy. He knew his limits but he was able to sense theirs as well. He was thus able to navigate himself through the competition to end up on top. |
|
|
Lesson #2: Do It Yourself
| |
| “I love my product,” said Lauder. “I love to touch the creams, smell them, look at them, carry them with me. A person has to love her harvest if she’s to expect others to love it.” Because of Lauder’s love for her company, she took a very hands-on approach to its operations, getting her hands dirty in everything from production to marketing to sales. She understood the importance of hiring a good team, but her desire for perfection and quality drove her to want to control all aspects of her company, at least until it got too big for her to handle alone. |

Lesson #4: Never Stop Running Scared
| |
| “The secret I learned early on from my father was to run scared and never think I had it made,” said Watson Jr. “I never felt I was completely adequate to the job and always ran scared…The fundamental for our success was running scared. I've seen us go by companies whose chief executives used to make me shake in awe." One of the biggest keys to IBM’s success was Watson Jr.’s inability to sit still, to accept his success and ride it out. Instead, Watson Jr. always kept his eye on the future, always looked for improvement, for the next big opportunity and he refused to settle. |

Lesson #1: Become a Remorseless Marketing Machine
| |
| “Our job is to wake up the consumers” says Knight. “If we become predictable, that’s not waking them up.” |
|
|
Lesson #2: You’re Only As Good As The People You Hire
| |
| “None of us is as good as all of us,” Kroc would say. A strong proponent of teamwork, Kroc understood that his growing company could only continue its meteoric rise up if it had the support and the dedication of its workers behind it. In order to ensure staff loyalty and motivate his employees, Kroc did his best to guarantee that they were treated with respect and were able to operate on an equal playing field. |
|
|
Lesson #3: Focus Your Sights
| |
| “Here is the prime condition of success, the great secret,” said Carnegie. “Concentrate your energy, thought, and capital exclusively upon the business in which you are engaged. Having begun in one line, resolve to fight it out on that line, to lead in it; adopt every improvement, have the best machinery, and know the most about it.” |
|
|
Lesson #4: Quality Questions Create a Quality Life
| |
| “Questions provide the key to unlocking our unlimited potential,” says Robbins. “Quality questions create a quality life. Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers.” |
|
|
Lesson #2: Make A Commitment To Be The Very Best
| |
| “My first ambition in life was to be Miles Davis,” recalls Gardner. “I didn’t want to be a trumpet player, an artist or a jazz musician – I literally wanted to be Miles. My mom said to me, ‘Baby, you can’t be Miles. There ain’t but one, and he got that job.’ But I made a commitment at an early age that I wanted to be world class at something,” |

Lesson #4: Learn to Expect the Unexpected
| |
| “Whatever future you’re building, don’t try to program everything,” says Omidyar. “Five Year Plans never worked for the Soviet Union – in fact, if anything, central planning contributed to its fall. Chances are, central planning won’t work any better for any of us.” |

The Dough Starts Flying: Domino’s Takes Off
| |
| “We had no idea what we were doing” recalls Monaghan of his and his brother’s first venture into the pizza business. “We opened up without an attorney. I didn’t even collect sales tax – didn’t know I had to.” Initially, the plan was for the brothers to each work half nights. However, when Monaghan’s brother refused to give up his job as a full-time mailman, Monaghan traded his Volkswagen for his brother’s half of the business. |

Lesson #1: Think Big About the Little Guy

| Growing up in the produce store of his stepfather, Giannini was surrounded by farmers, merchants, and other labourers. He got to know them, their businesses, and their business needs, in what proved to be an experience he would not soon forget. In fact, the lives and stories of these workers would come back to haunt him when he first took the job with the Columbus Savings & Loan Association. For, it was during this time that Giannini began to recognize that there were entire groups of people – workers – who were readily denied access to bank loans and credit. |

Inside Intel: Success Factors of a Company that Inspired an Industry
| |
| Today, Intel is ranked 49th on Fortune 500’s list of the top revenue grossing companies. Noyce and Moore may no longer be in charge of the daily running of the business they first founded in 1968; however, their impact on not only the company, but also the entire industry can still be felt. The maker of motherboard chipsets, network cards, flash memory drives, graphic chips, embedded processors and more, Intel is an innovator and a leader in the world of electronics and computing. How did two scientists who knew nothing about business become two of the most successful examples of entrepreneurship in history? |

Lesson #3: Create Long-Term Value For Your Shareholders
| |
| Before Schwartz ever made a decision to acquire a company or not, he would always ask himself one question: what can this company become? Schwartz was not interested in making short-term profit. Instead, his number one goal centered around creating value for his shareholders. “Every decision Onex makes is made on the basis of creating long-term value,” says Schwartz. “Our philosophy is to operate like a forever owner of an asset.” |

|
Lesson #2: A Strong Team Leads the Trail to Tomorrow
| |
| “I’m only as good as my team,” says Ramsay. “Building a team is part of the foundation of a good business.” |
|
|
Lesson #2: Being Stubborn Is Fair Play On The Road To Success
| |
| “You know, I’m lucky enough that I’m just sort of stubborn and sort of immature,” says McFarlane. “That thought of, ‘Todd, how come you’re successful?’ never occurred to me. I don’t listen to anybody. I’m like a five year old kid. I’ll hold my breath if I don’t get my way, and it served me.” |
|
|
Lesson #5: Tap Into Today’s Top Talent
| |
| “I think it is a mistake to hire huge numbers of people to get a complicated job done,” says Musk. “Numbers will never compensate for talent in getting the right answer (two people who don't know something are no better than one), will tend to slow down progress, and will make the task incredibly expensive.” |

Lesson #1: It Is Never To Late To Get Your Start
| |
| “When we began to make $10 a day, [my ex-husband] thought that was enough, thought I ought to be satisfied,” said Walker. “But I was convinced that my hair preparation would fill a long-felt want. And when we found it impossible to agree, due to his narrowness of vision, I embarked on business for myself.” |
|
|
Lesson #5: Take Time Off to Tune Up
| |
| When Orfalea first rented his little $100 per week garage near the USC campus, he was told his venture would never work. It was a pipe dream, they said. It was a business that would flunk as fast as Orfalea had in school. Still, says Orfalea, “I didn’t listen. I knew what I was going to do.” |

Lesson #5: “Success seems to be connected to action.”
| |
| Marriott never stood still or took the time to reflect on his successes. After all, there was no time to indulge in such things. “Successful people keep moving,” he would say. “They make mistakes, but they never quit.” |
|
|
Lesson #1: “There’s no genius behind it. It’s persistence and listening to people.”
| |
| From its onset, Craigslist was born from the ideas and suggestions of its users. When Newmark began sending out his email list in 1995 to a small group of interested subscribers, almost immediately, he began receiving emails back with suggestions for job and apartment listings they hoped Newmark would add to his list. |
|
|
Lesson #5: “Hard times are an opportunity for growth”
| |
| If there is one lesson that Wilson has carried with him since he was a young boy it is this: every opportunity, whether missed or taken, represents another lesson to be learned. |

Remember The Little Things In Life

What You SAY is What You Get - How to Speak Your Way to Success
| |
| If you are going to be successful in creating the life of your dreams, you have to believe that you are capable of making it happen. You have to believe you have the right stuff, that you are able to pull it off. You have to believe in yourself. Whether you call it self-esteem, self-confidence, or self-assurance, it is a deep-seated belief that you have what it takes – the abilities, inner resources, talents, and skills to create your desired results. |

One, a few, most or all

Marriage
| |
| As the 10th of 12 children, my older brothers and sisters obviously got here many years before I did. Two of my older brothers and two of my older sisters had failed marriages. Since I was at the bottom of the production chain, my younger brother and I had the benefit of what my mother had observed and taught us. She pointed out that we should never date a girl more than once or twice if we discovered we would be unwilling to have her as the mother of our children and be unwilling to take her wherever we were and introduce her with pride to anyone. I listened intently to what my mother had to say. I chose carefully. |

Five New Rules for Marketing

Chaos, Confusion & Catastrophe: The Three C’s of Small Business
| |
| I just have to get this out of my system. I have had so many negative experiences n the past few weeks with “service companies” who simply have no idea -- none, zilch, completely vacuously zero – of what service is, that I simpl could not restrain myself from writing about it and sharing it with you, given how committed you are to fulfilling the vision of entrepreneurship. |

Marketing time

Your Vulnerability Is Your Strength!
| |
| At conferences and trainings, we're always trying to get people to have deeper, more meaningful conversations, to let their guard down and share their vulnerabilities and passions -- the stuff that makes us all human! I've heard so many touching stories recently from people who had the courage to try it. Two examples: |
|
|
A business without a dream is like a life without a purpose
| |
| I launched my present company, E-Myth Worldwide, in 1977 to transform the way small business owners do the work of growing their companies.
Since then we have coached, trained and taught over 50,000 small business owners in more than 145 countries on how to transform their business to produce consistently better results.
What we learned from those 50,000-plus owners could fill a dozen books.

Wrestling
| |
| Recently I did something that was totally out of character for me. I always talk about taking chances - whether in business or in life -- and this time I really took a big one. I agreed to take part in a huge WWE wrestling extravaganza, headed up by an amazing man named Vince McMahon. He can put on a show the likes of which I’ve never seen. |

Change is Good
| |
| Sometimes we love change and sometimes we hate it. Regardless, it always takes a little bit of courage to leave something familiar and try something new. Why is change difficult for most of us? Because change necessitates that we move out of our comfort zones. |
|
|
Guerrilla Planning
| |
| The first thing to know is that guerrillas plan backwards, beginning with
the attainment of their loftiest goals in the future, then working back
to the present. If you can allow yourself to visualize success, the path
to it will be easier to find. Most companies see the beginning of the
path in front of them, but don't see where it leads in the distance.
Their short-sightedness gets them in trouble when change or unforeseen
circumstances occur. It even impairs their ability to function when
confronted with success. |

Marketing is What You Do and What You Say
| |
| A lot of marketers get caught in the trap of figuring out what to say to get the sale. Then, well, then things go south a bit. |

Managing Difficult People
| |
| One of the biggest challenges candidates face on The Apprentice is managing difficult teammates. Even the most talented of project managers often struggles when he or she has to lead individuals who are disliked or disruptive. It drains energy from the rest of the group and it can make the work environment a divisive one. |

Never Quit: A Lesson from The Apprentice

10 Rules for Being a Great Panel Moderator

| Having moderated many conference panels, and participated on many more of same -- and suffered through even more as an audience member -- I've decided to share some words of advice on moderating a panel (I offered rules for being a panelist in a prior post). Being a moderator is nowhere near as easy as people seemingly think, and most people are crummy at it. |
|
|
Act to Create It
| |
| If you want to live your dreams, not only must you decide what you want, turn your dream into measurable goals, break those goals down into specific action steps, and visualize and affirm your desired outcomes -- you must start taking action. |

|
Office Romances
| |
| This season on The Apprentice, two of the candidates - Tim and Nicole - had what I guess you would call “an office romance.” The romance ended up hurting Tim because he couldn’t figure out if his loyalties were to Nicole or to his team. Plus he couldn’t really concentrate on what he was doing. |

People You Don't Like
| |
| I’ve been asked many times, “How do I build a relationship with a person I just don’t like?” And typically, we’re talking about the workplace – a customer or boss or associate. My answer is usually, “Not everyone is going to be your best friend, but if you’re forced to deal with a person, why not make the relationship more personal and real? Wouldn’t you want a better relationship for the sake of success, mutuality, and most importantly, less angst and more joy?” |

Moms Not Working
| |
| For years, career women have heard that it’s fine for them to quit their jobs in order to become stay-at-home moms. They’re told that it’s the best thing for their children and eventually they can make their way back into the workforce when their kids get old enough. |

What Not To Say To Your Boss

Tip 106 - How to Thank Your Valuable Employee

Money with Meaning: Living Your Life “On Purpose”
| |
| Why are you here? Why are you on the planet right now? Many people believe we each come into this life with a purpose, a reason for living. Considering that every element in nature has a specific purpose for existing, and we are an integral part of nature, it stands to reason that we have a purpose too. |

What are you hiring for?
| |

Secrets of Email
| |
| Most people read their email with their finger on the delete key similar to the way we sort through our mail over the trash bin to facilitate the process of throwing our junk mail away. If your email is not opened, you have exactly a 0% chance of getting a response no matter how fantastic the contents of your email may be. |

Talk to Your Boss about Your Next Job

|
Use Examples to Encourage
| |
| It's well established that good leaders praise their employees, but there are different ways to go about it. As a manager, one thing you can do is to point out to the whole team how well an employee does a certain task. Then others can follow that best practices example. |

The Best News
| |
| There are many different attitudes. Roberto de Vincenzo, a golfer from Argentina, beautifully displayed one of the best ones many years ago when he won the Masters Golf Tournament but was denied the coveted green jacket. I say he won it because he had the lowest score at the end of four days. But his playing partner who kept the score had inadvertently written that he had made a five on one of the holes when in reality he had made a four. De Vincenzo signed the card, and when an incorrect card is signed, the player is disqualified. He had not cheated, but the rules stood. What was his reaction when he learned he was disqualified? Did he blame his playing partner? No, he said he made a stupid mistake. He accepted full responsibility himself. Now what kind of man is he?
|
|
|
Responding
| |
| When you respond to life, that's positive; when you react to life, that's negative. Example: you get sick and go to the doctor. Chances are good that after an examination he or she would give you a prescription with instructions to return in several days. When you walk back in if the doctor starts shaking his head and says, "It looks like your body is reacting to the medicine, we're going to have to change it," you probably would get a little nervous. However, if the doctor smiled and said, "You're looking great! Your body is responding to the medication," you would get excited and feel much better. Yes, responding to life is good. Reacting to the incidents of life is negative - and that's bad. The next example validates that fact.

Pure Evangelism: How to Get Great Candidates

| There is an art to sucking up. Done too blatantly it will backfire. Done too weakly, you won't get what you want. The perfect suck up contains the following elements: |

|
Rejection - Not By You, Really
| |
| Rejection isn't failure. I've been back from vacation for five days (including the weekend) and I've send out around 100 50 (if felt like 100, but I went back and counted and it was slightly more than 50) rejection emails to deals that came into my inbox while I was on vacation. It's part of my job - and I try to always at least give a little context as to why something isn't interesting to me. But 50 in five days (really 10 days including the vacation) starts to be a little discouraging. |
|
|
Appearance
| |
| Okay - I admit it - this one is extreme. Several years ago before I realized that my body retains ice cream, my wife and I were in our favorite ice cream parlor. An unusual-looking young man walked through the front door. In my lifetime I have never seen anything like it. His hair was sticking out in every direction and came to a point at the top so sharp that it was dangerous. He had every imaginable color represented - green, purple, orange, red, lavender, black - it was really a sight to behold! |

Get Your Shine On

Fixing Problems
| |
| Question: Can you remember a day when you did not have some "problem," irritation, disappointment, defeat or set-back of some kind? It might be having to make an unexpected stop at the service station because your mate drove your car and neglected to refill it. Or maybe your boss gave you incomplete information on an important project and now you have to start all over. |

Kick-Start Your Priority Focus

Help Them Problem Solve
| |
| As you already know, people do not buy shampoo; they buy clean, great-looking hair. That means selling a benefit. A way that some shampoos have achieved profits is by reassuring people that the shampoo cleans hair, then stressing that it solves the problem of unmanageable hair -- a benefit and a solution to a problem. |

Leaders Are Communicators
| |
| There is an old saying, “That which can be misunderstood will be misunderstood.” This resolution, passed by the Board of Councilmen in Canton, Mississippi, in the mid-1800s brings that into focus. “Number one: Resolved by this Council that we build a new jail. Number two: Resolved that the new jail be built out of the materials of the old jail. Resolved that the old jail be used until the new jail is finished.” |

Be the CEO of Your Job
| |
| Sometimes a person says one sentence that just sticks with you and is so perfect that it defines a whole category of behavior. Mark Pincus, the CEO of Zynga, riffed on the phrase “be the CEO of your job” in a board meeting a year or so ago. It stuck with me and I’ve thought about it many times since. |

Basic Feedback Should Be BASIC
| |
| One of the key skills of supervisors is giving feedback to employees about their performance. Feedback, of course, includes praise for a job well done as well as constructive observations about how things could be done better. Apprehension about providing feedback to employees is particularly acute among newly promoted supervisors. This is often the result of a lack of the supervisory training. |

Growth: The Human Component
| |
| Most entrepreneurs are loners intent on following their own intuitions and desires, guarding their business like secrets.
