| In the early 1970s, both Greenfield and Cohen were at major crossroads in their lives; neither was satisfied with nor particularly inspired by their careers thus far. In 1974, Greenfield moved to North Carolina with his fiancée to take what he now calls his ‘first retirement’ – a much needed three month break that allowed time for reflection. That same year, Cohen moved to the Adirondack Mountain region of New York, where he worked as a craft teacher at a local school for emotionally disturbed youth. For three years, he worked on this 600 acre property, building his own house, teaching pottery and other art techniques, as well as making ice cream with the students. |

Moody Brews - Small Town Woman in Business Success.

| This summer I drove through Doris, California and stopped to visit with Julie Barkman, owner of 'Moody Brews' Coffee Drive Thru.
For ten years Julie worked in adult education, commuting 25 miles to Klamath Falls, Oregon.
In 2007, Julie and her husband decided to start a business to stop her commute, providing her the freedom to be there for her family and giving them a way to give back to their community.
Julie named her coffee shop 'Moody Brews' because she is a big fan of the Moody Blues Music. Mr. Barkman, her husband, built the drive thru from scratch.

| The Canadian singer-song writer, Leonard Cohen, has a song “Everybody Knows”. In this Cohen is pointing out everybody knows what is going on – especially when things aren’t working – but no-one is prepared to do anything about it. We continue doing the same things – possibly with some “tweaking” but basically still the same – and wonder why there is no real improvement.
The issues of leadership and employee engagement are no different.
