While individual Muppets were slowly being created and displayed in various media outlets, it wasn’t until 1969, when they began to appear in Sesame Street, that their popularity soared. Created by the Children’s Television Workshop, Henson was hired to contribute to the show, but was initially reluctant to accept for fear of being pigeonholed as a children’s entertainer. In early 1969, Thomas was sitting in the steam room of the Columbus Athletic Club with his friend Len Immke, sharing with him his restaurant ideas. After finding the Club’s dining room closed, Immke commented on how difficult it was to find a good lunch downtown and suggested that Thomas open his own restaurant in one of Immke’s buildings. On November 15, 1969, Thomas did just that and opened the first Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers in Columbus, Ohio to a packed grand opening.

According to the study, 63 percent of U.S. Internet users (or approximately 109 million people) performed a local search online in July, a 43-percent increase versus July of 2005.
