Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. When I was a youngster I got into a number of fist fights on the school grounds. Now fighting was obviously frowned on by all teachers, but in those days kids settled differences between themselves and there was never any thought--regardless of the outcome of the tussle, which in most cases lasted just two or three blows--of getting a knife or a baseball bat, certainly not a gun, to get even with the victor. No, once the scuffle ended it was all over.

Tagged
I remember growing up we use to play a game called "tag". I am sure you remember playing this game with the neighborhood kids. One or more kids would count to 10 and then chase other kids to tag them and they would be what we called "it". The kids who were tagged were the next ones to count, chase, and tag kids. A couple other things I think of when I think about the word "tagged" is when graffiti artist tagged walls with spray paint or when people get tagged with a tatoo somewhere on their body.
Baseball and Leadership
Baseball is a game that rewards the clever. As with adaptability, baseball games often hinge on the smallest and most ingenious plays. A pick-off at first base. A hit and run with two outs. A squeeze bunt. Leaders too will be rewarded for cleverness. Rather than simply replicating the results of predecessors or maintaining the status quo, the modern leader is required to seek different and creative methods and solutions.

Why Prospecting is Like Baseball
The reason I want to talk about why prospecting is like baseball is because I recently saw a quote by Mickey Mantle that struck home: "During my 18 years in baseball, I came to bat almost 9,000 times. I struck out over 1,700 times and walked over 1,800 times. That means I played seven years in the major leagues without even hitting a baseball."

Two Important Qualities
There are a lot of similarities between business and baseball, and in ways they are interchangeable. I played baseball in high school and became captain of the team. I learned a lot about how teams can excel with the right leadership and with regard to the specific talents of each player. It was a great education.
Baseball's General Managers versus Business' Sales Managers
You have one huge advantage over baseball General Managers though. Forward looking indicators. Except for observation, all of the statistics they use in baseball are lagging indicators.

Kids! I don't know what's wrong with these kids today! Kids! Who can understand anything they say? Kids!
Kid’s Have Stress Too
Childhood has changed. Instead of pick-up baseball and basketball games on the corner lot, there are competitive travel leagues for kids as young as seven or eight.
Be A Model For Your Kids
Do you have little kids in your home? If so, I applaud your courage and hard work - it takes plenty of both to raise kids these days. When they reach a certain age (around adolescence), you may become convinced otherwise, but your kids take most of their cues from you. You should do whatever you can to keep yourself healthy for your own sake - but developing (and displaying) great health habits is even more important when you have kids watching everything you do....
