Equity Markets are a Farce!
| |
| What drives an investor to buy a stock? Is it the fundamentals? The technicals? A combination of the two? Well I’m not quite certain anymore. You can basically throw all of the textbook answers out the window when it comes to today’s equity markets. Why do I say that? Because I believe that the only thing that is driving this market is the notion that the government is going to bail out everyone and their brother. |

National Labor Relations Board FAQs
| |
| The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1935 to administer the National Labor Relations Act, the primary law governing relations between unions and employers in the private sector. The statute guarantees the right of employees to organize and bargain collectively with their employers or to refrain from all such activity. Generally applying to all employers involved in interstate commerce - other than airlines, railroads, agriculture, and government - the Act implements the national labor policy of assuring free choice and encouraging collective bargaining as a means of maintaining industrial peace. Through the years, Congress has amended the Act and the Board and courts have developed a body of law drawn from the statute. |

Conceptualizations Of Organizational Environmental Uncertainty
| |
|
In the management literature, the external environment can be broadly defined as “the totality of physical and social factors that are taken directly into consideration in the decision-making behavior of individuals in organizations” (Duncan, 1972, p. 314). Organizational researchers have long theorized that the overall environment consists primarily of several independent components (e.g. Duncan, 1972; Miles and Snow, 1978; Hambrick, 1982). Among the most significant elements that were theorized to exist in the external environment were customers, competitors, government regulations and labor unions. While the individual components that made up each researcher’s conception of the environment were not always the same, each conception agreed that the various environmental elements acted to create uncertainty for firms. |

Film Production: Working with Unions
| |
|
Unions were created to protect workers from unfair wages and poor working conditions. If a producer wants to use any union labor, then that producer will have to become a signatory to the appropriate union contract. This does not necessarily mean that the production must hire only union labor, nor does it mean that the production will need a big budget. Some unions, such as the Screen Actors Guild (”SAG”) offer various contract options for small and medium budget films.

How to Prevent Your Employees from Becoming Collateral Damage in the Labor-Management Battle
| |
| While members of Congress talk about improving the workplace for employees, the actions of many indicate that they are far more interested in serving the interests of either management or unions than they are in securing better conditions for workers. Unless this attitude changes quickly, employees are likely to become collateral damage in the on-going tug of war between labor and management. Organizations that make their workers a high priority and treat them well on a daily basis won’t have to worry about what legislation is passed. It’s management’s choice – for a limited time only. |

Renewing Limited Government: Limit Unions
| |
| We can, and must, limit the runaway growth of corrupt labor unions in America. Workers should have the choice to organize, but not be forced to be bled by high dues and high taxes which go to ruin the very companies that employ them. Keep the unions... but limit them to the good and noble function for which they're intended.... |
