| Employers are discovering increasing numbers of high school graduates who cannot do “applied” math, perform basic measurements and fill out job applications. In other words, “they are graduates who are not employable.”Our culture and our education system are only producing a small percentage of individuals who are taking a “challenging curriculum” so they are truly prepared for the rigors of college or a knowledge-based workplace.” We must understand that our new concern is not unemployment but “employability!” |

Inditex, the Spanish retailer behind Zara, is to set up shop in India in partnership with Tata, the conglomerate, as it presses on with an aggressive expansion plan despite the global downturn. Europe's largest clothing chain is betting that its "fast fashion" model can be transposed to the subcontinent. The group, which already has outlets in 73 countries, from Russia to Guatemala, prides itself on being able to design, manufacture and deliver new lines in just two weeks, compared to an industry average of nine months. |

China commits to raising outsourcing profile

| India may still be the dominant country when it comes to offshore outsourcing, but that situation could change in the coming years as China makes a bid to challenge its rival. Earlier this year, the government chose 20 cities as outsourcing hubs to attract more international investment and provided them with tax breaks, labor hours systems and employment subsidies.
Now, the country has announced further policies designed to boost the sector. On Wednesday, the Chinese government said it would increase the financial incentives given to companies working within the outsourcing industry, particularly within the 20 hub cities.
