The Value and Benefits of Strategic Thinking
Strategic thinking plays an enormous role in professional work and is part of the branding of my multi-disciplinary consultancy. ”A Strategic Thinking Consultancy” appears directly underneath the logo for The Renaissance Group ™ and my newsletter name is “Glenn’s Guiding Lines Thoughts From Your Strategic Thinking Coach.” It is a reality in business today that strategic thinking and the execution of strategic planning are some of the most difficult tasks for business leaders. Although it is easier to be tactical or task oriented, the business leader must be strategic or risk becoming very shortsighted. Therefore a clear understanding of the value and the benefits of strategic thinking are very important. Here are lists of my thoughts on the value and the benefit of strategic thinking.

How to Identify The Real Leaders Out There Among Us
How can you know a real leader when you see one? What do real leaders do that define them as leaders? Many people may consider themselves leaders, but in reality do not demonstrate principles of leadership and are not leaders at all. In today’s world there are many imposters posing as leaders. In order to assist you in identifying leaders in your company or organization, I have selected seven (7) actions that I believe real leaders take that define them as “real leaders.” Those seven (7) actions are:

Employee Motivation - 5 Steps to Apply When Mistakes Occur
CEOs and other leaders continue to recycle employees who failed to make perfect decisions and act properly every time. On the surface you might be thinking, how big was the mistake? Many of these executives also use the cliché, “We pay them the big bucks NOT to make mistakes.” Blame is typically being placed on the wrong people. Worse yet, the leaders who don’t tolerate errors typically hold people to standards higher than those that they themselves achieve and attainable by less than 1% of the population, if that much. These are the very same leaders who cannot understand why their employees are not motivated, the same leaders who typically offer better-than-average compensation to keep people, yet still find it difficult to retain or attract top talent.

How Regenerative Leaders Build Enduring Strategic Advantages
Every organization needs leaders who think ahead (strategic thinking). The leaders should have the capabilities for seeing things as they are inside and outside the organization. They need ability to generate, attract, and select powerful ideas. They must have the courage to define and implement values in their decision making. They must be able to identify means for enhancing value (customer benefit). Finally they should be able to convert all thinking into specific actions. These are Regenerative Leader's abilities. All these abilities are needed for using any strategic framework.

How To Think Like A Leader
The thought process of a leader is different from that of followers. Sure, leaders are usually very smart and have access to plenty of specialized knowledge and experience to help them make decisions; but these characteristics are not what make leaders “different” thinkers. What makes leaders different is their ability to think critically in leadership situations. Critical thinking is the key. So how does one go about thinking critically to make the right choices in leadership situations?

Attaining the Entrepreneurial Mindset
Great business leaders think in a certain way. Their success can be credited back to the expert mindset. This way of thinking determine their actions and therefore their results. Business leaders attempting to achieve this model of thought are encouraged to envision success in the business world.

Think Like a Leader
As most of you already know, my mission is "transforming business owners into business leaders". As the economy moves into the next phase of recovery, it will be those who think and function as leaders who will be the winners. Leaders will have identified pertinent opportunities and prepared themselves for advantage as things improve. Are you thinking like a leader? Let's see.

Leadership with a Small "L"
There have been only a few great leaders in our lifetime. Leaders like Reagan, Churchill, Disney, and Welch to mention a few. They could never have risen to the hieghts they did without the many small "L" leaders that backed them up. It is from the pool of small "L" leaders that the great leaders emerge. Learn how to grow leaders from seed.

Personal Impact and Influence – Behaviours on The Conversation Control Map
The best negotiators, leaders and communicators have a structure which guides their thinking and helps them to frequently check where they are in relation to their objectives or desired outcomes. Charles Margerison’s excellent Conversation Control Map is a tool I use extensively both in my own interactions and in training negotiators, salespeople, managers and leaders.

Leadership Character and the Greater Good – Character Matters
My most inspiring executive coaching leadership clients know the "why" of their business. They are open, optimistic and forward thinking. Emotionally intelligent leaders know that creating a workplace culture and climate where emotions are appropriately expressed increases engagement and productivity. In order for people to be fully engaged and happy, they need to feel they are following leaders who inspire them emotionally.
