Lesson #2: Commitments Never Come Without a Cost
| |
| “It is sometimes said that the people are ahead of the politicians; it can also be said that journalism ought to be ahead of the people. Otherwise, the people are ill-served,” said Luce. “As a journalist, I am in command of a small sector in the very front trenches of this battle for freedom.” |

LIES, EVIL AND NARCISSISM
| |
| Back in 1983, well known American psychiatrist Scott Peck (1936-2005) published a book that by his own admission; “I have written it with trepidation,” was very difficult for him. That book was titled; People of the Lie. In this book he delves into the essence of human evil. Coming from a Christian perspective his tendency was to look at the subject through rose coloured glasses….somewhat coloured by his religious beliefs, but his writing goes a long way to putting the question of evil into a perspective that we can all understand and relate to, and unfortunately sometimes see and even get caught up in, in everyday life.
However the book became particularly disturbing for me when I began to read about a particularly dangerous TYPE of liar. |

Communication, Respect and Trust
| |
| As a sales and marketing professional I suppose I am more sensitive than others to the at times generalised perception/portrayal of sales and marketing professionals as bounders and vagabonds. I know our society has changed but there is still this awful underlying sense that only certain professions and activities have any value. This was brought to a head recently on a message board where a contributor made the following statement
Fundamentally a damn good marketing consultant is a first class highly convincing liar.
