Guerrilla Marketing Memes
| |
| The prehistoric man, Uba, spent all day in the rain trying to catch a fish because his family was very hungry and in dire need of food. But he was unable to grab a fish from the stream even though he occasionally got his hands on one. Frustrated and weak from hunger, he just couldn't grab any fish firmly enough because it would slither from his hands and return to the stream. Worse yet, the light rain turned to a heavy rain and Uba was forced to seek shelter in a nearby cave.

Remember My Company?
| |
| We’ve all been to a party where we remember someone’s face, but not their name. Or their name, but not their “story”. Or their “story” but not what they look like. We even have language for it (”good with faces”, etc.). |

Hang on...
| |
| The blessing of life also brings with is a multitude of adversities we all face - challenges with career, family, finances, relationships, feeling overwhelmed or struggling with depression. Recently, continued negative news on many fronts can tend to magnify these challenges in our lives.
I was personally uplifted as recalled an inspiring address given by Wallace A. Kennedy, Professor of Psychology at my alma mater, Florida State University. He was talking to the students of Maclay School in Tallahassee on November 17, 1981. One of their classmates, Margaret, had just committed suicide, and they were in distress. |

Costly Distractions
| |
| During the entertainment on our cruise the light handler was flipping the spotlights around so every so often they would glare into our eyes. This distracted us from fully enjoying the singer onstage who belted his heart out. I doubt that he realised how the light handler was spoiling his act. |

Do You Want To Become A Rainmaker
| |
| During my 35 year career, I have had the privilege of being referred to as a "Rainmaker" in several news articles and stories during interviews with some of my clients. I take that as a very kind compliment. Some may ask, what is a "Rainmaker?" The American Indian tradition would say that the Rainmaker used magical powers to bring rain to nourish crops to feed the people of the tribe. Today, the most common and simplistic definition I can offer would be this: A "Rainmaker" is a person who brings the most revenue into a company or organization and the revenue or money is the rain. Today's "Rainmaker" makes things happen, generates the most new customers, new business and takes the art of the doing business to new levels.

LaserSharp Networking
| |
| Did you know that the energy put out by a normal light bulb is equal to the energy put out by a laser beam? A laser has a very tight beam and is very strong and concentrated. A light bulb, on the other hand, releases light in many directions, so the light is comparably weak and diffuse. The difference between the two allows the laser, with focused energy, to have the power to do very fine and delicate surgery, artistic etching and play the broad, full sounds of an orchestral overture.
Does that sound like the kind of precision you want from your networking activities? I've found that there are three ways to bring your networking efforts into laser-sharp focus to make it an even more powerful way to build your business:

Prayer and purposeful action
| |
| I awoke early this morning to the sound of gentle rain falling and found myself immediately praying for more. This prayer came automatically during one of the most tragic weeks in Victoria’s history with the tragedy of the bush fires in many parts of our state.
As a Victorian I have found myself upping my prayer quotient for rain for some time now, not just for the bush fires but for the many people whose lives are affected by the drought here and elsewhere. In addition to my prayers, like many families, my family and I have been doing our best to save water and change the size of our carbon foot print. Yet at times like this one can’t help but feel somewhat helpless and useless. All I felt I could do under the circumstances was to pray and give money. |

2011...New Consumers, New Markets, New Economy Take Hold
| |
| Finally it appears as though we're looking out of the tunnel. We can see light -- a lot of optimistic light -- rather than extended gloom. The economy won't be completely behind us but things are looking like they are going to slowly improve. There are still potholes on the road to recovery and prosperity. Fortunately they aren't in the market areas we focus on. Where do we see things improving and how quickly? Take a look for yourself.

Mice and Men
| |
| Recently, there was a university study done using white mice as the subjects for a psychological experiment. The mice were put into a cage with a red light and a green light on opposite sides of the space. The experiment was designed in such a way that when a bell rang, a mouse could rush to the red light or the green light to receive a treat. The treat was only presented for a few seconds, so that if the mouse guessed wrong and went to the green light when the treat was being presented at the red light, the mouse didn't have enough time to rush across the cage and get the treat.
