Italy vs Holland
| |
| Growing up I couldn’t wait to get out of my puny little town of 100,000. Now I live in a town of less then 1,000. And strangely enough, as I open my eyes to look around, I know that it is exactly where I’m supposed to be right now. |

Summer Hours....Lost in Transition
| |
| As much as we may try to control the events in our lives, life sometimes has a mind of it's own. Reflective of the knowing insights that this significant event and my new family responsibilities have created, I share my memories and the internal quest to find a new semblance of balance, a work in progress as I seek not to become lost in the transistion. |

The Interview Process in a Nutshell
| |
| Have you ever thought about the full cost of hiring a new employee? There are the obvious costs: placing an ad, the wages spent on time looking at resumes and conducting interviews, pre-employment physical, reference checks.
Then there are the less obvious costs: wages for training time of both the trainer and new employee, lost productivity while the position is vacant, lost productivity while the new employee learns and gets up to speed, the cost of mistakes.
When you add it all up it definitely motivates you to minimize employee turnover, doesn’t it? And there are many strategies an employer can utilize to create an environment that inspires employee loyalty. But the first and most important step is making the right hiring decision. |

Leadership Qualities that Promote Positive Racial Teacher-Student Relationships
| |
| Several years ago, as I sat in my office, I wondered if working as an educator was worth it. I was spending most of my time processing disciplinary infractions which did not allow time for instructional leadership. I knew that the time students spent in my office and in the in-school suspension program resulted in lost instructional time for teachers and students. This lost in instructional time has an impact on standardized test scores, school leadership, students, teachers, and the local community.
When cultural conflicts between educators and students are non-existent, schools become the benefactor ... |

A Philosophy To Live By
| |
| Wisdom goes back a long way and comes in the form of examples, illustrations, stories, cliches, parables, etc. One of the oldest bits of philosophy says that “for want of a nail a shoe was lost, for want of a shoe a horse was lost, for want of a horse a rider was lost, for want of a rider a leader was lost, for want of a leader a battle was lost, for want of a victory a war was lost, for want of a plan a nation was lost.” |

| |
| One of the biggest mistakes many women leaders make is avoiding the spotlight. Time after time, our women clients tell us stories of being "lost in the shuffle" when it comes time for promotions and opportunities. Are you done?
| |
| Are you done?
I love underdogs. This love for the less likely winner may be the result of that that I was an underdog many times throughout my life.
I was born a sickly child, lost my parents at a young age, experienced extreme poverty, had little or no education (dropped out of school after eighth grade), amassed fortunes and lost them, lost my sisters and oldest son, and that’s just a small part of my “Under Dog List.”
Regardless of all the disadvantages and failures in my life, I always possessed (and still do) a “Keep Going” attitude. Even when I had no idea on how to survive into the next moment, let alone the next day, I would keep going. When I could not figure out what to do next, I would keep going with whatever I could at the moment.
When we keep going, something always comes through for us. |
