Lesson #2: Do It Yourself
| |
| “I love my product,” said Lauder. “I love to touch the creams, smell them, look at them, carry them with me. A person has to love her harvest if she’s to expect others to love it.” Because of Lauder’s love for her company, she took a very hands-on approach to its operations, getting her hands dirty in everything from production to marketing to sales. She understood the importance of hiring a good team, but her desire for perfection and quality drove her to want to control all aspects of her company, at least until it got too big for her to handle alone. |

| |
| By John Doerr
“And if you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with,
love the one you're with, love the one you're with, love the one you're with.…”
- Stephen Stills
Why does it seem that our clients (and prospects) too often take the advice of seventies rock stars when selecting their professional services providers? Perhaps the following story will shed some light.

Persuasive Writing: How to Harness the Power of the Story
| |
| Most people love stories for entertainment-we go to the movies to watch stories, we read novels before bed, and we share our own stories with friends. Sue Grafton is a Success Because She Loves What She Does
| |
| Successful people have a clearly defined purpose for their life. Sue Grafton's purpose is writing mystery stories that entertain large numbers of people. My purpose is helping others succeed. My friend's purpose was creating better surgical equipment. What is your purpose? It should be something you love. If you don't love it, you'll get burned out and see your work as a grind. If you love what you do, you see your work as a gift and something to which you look forward every day. As we approach the end of 2009, spend some time thinking about what you truly love doing. Then, and more important, think about how you can make doing what you love your life's work. |

THINGS YOU MIGHT FIND DIFFICULT
| |
| “Love means never having to say you’re sorry!” You may or may not be old enough to remember that line from the movie; “LOVE STORY,” which believe it or not came out all the way back in 1970. I suppose the rationale for what was meant here was that love is unconditional and therefore does not require apologies.
Combining love with apologizing seemed like a good lead into what I wanted to write about this month. Life presents us with all kinds of challenges and at times there are a number of things all of us find difficult. Two of those in particular that many find difficult are; saying we’re sorry and telling someone we love them! |

StorySelling “How to Write Mini User Stories”
| |
| Why: Use mini user stories, with the right sales message, so that your salespeople are able to sell value and differentiate your offering instead of pitching product and reducing price.
Mini User Stories: Make the stories short. Use only one constraint per story otherwise you risk flooding the Buyer with too much information.
Make the Buyer the Hero of the Story: Many Customer Stories make the company out to be the hero who rode in on their white shinny horse to save the Buyer.
