I understood this conceptually, but often time my thoughts simply dominated my reality and I felt helpless, stuck and tortured by them. Yes, I knew they were lousy, disempowering thoughts ruining my life...but, they felt REAL. As much as I TRIED to consciously release them, I couldn't. Even techniques in NLP, "changing my focus" and using positive language only seemed to work temporarily. The idea of having a "still mind" sounded great, but my meditation practice was filled with lots of swimming thoughts, and little "stillness".

When we give, there is a typically a reward... sometimes a paycheck or monetary compensation, and other times we know we'll receive appreciation, acknowledgment or love from the recipient.
