| In the banking panic of 1875, a young Heinz found himself overextended and bankrupt. My family thinks I want a jet

When I was at Starwood, I shared a corporate jet with a group of folks. And when I worked for Mike Milken, I traveled a lot with him on his jet. I always enjoyed it as a nice perk, but I couldn’t help but think how silly some people were to say things like “I need my jet.”

FEE Fi Fo

If you have flown recently you have been bombarded with the airline’s new pricing strategy, a mutating “ala carte” menu of unbundled services in an age of bundling. I prefer to call it “un-bungling”. The published fares on the web seem reasonable and enticing but that’s where the fun begins and ends. Once you click to buy, enter the “Fee Demons”. The official names are the Federal Segment Tax, Airport Facilities Charge, and September 11 Security Fee. Obviously this is a form of government taxation that if included in the fare would make it less attractive to the potential flyer. Your airline ticket now resembles your phone bill with it’s array of “after the facts tax”.

Travel Savvy: OGIOs Terminal bag style 711401

Because my husband and I are full-time, professional travel writers, the nature of our hunt for the ideal carry-on bag has become almost an obsession. Add to that the diminishing limits -- both weight and size -- for carry-on baggage (especially on international flights), and you can imagine how discerning and picky we have become.

The Immigrant\'s Attitude

Some time ago, my associate, Krish Dhanam, and I were returning from an engagement in Tampa, FL, where we had spoken for the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. The flight was uneventful; we landed at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, got our luggage and loaded it on one of the rental carts. The walk was fairly lengthy and the first two hundred yards were uneventful; then we came to the moving sidewalks.

Airline Attitudes

| Like many people in business today, I spend a lot of my time on airplanes, flying from point A to point B. I generally am among the very first people to board so I get to sit and relax as I listen to all of the other people scrambling to get on the plane, find their seats, and stow their carryon luggage.
