Apple should NOT cut Mac prices

There’s a constant cry from some quarters for Apple to slice prices on the Macs to: a) compete with the bargain bin PeeCees, b) accommodate consumers in these tough economic times, and/or c) prove those Microsoft ads wrong. To which I say: don’t do it

By my new way of calculating it, Apple is the number one computer vendor in the US

Maybe it would be cheating but what if iPhones and iPod touches were tallied into the total for Macs sold during a quarter? Imagine what that would do for the Mac’s market share.

About those Microsoft ads, some folks SHOULD buy a PC

Some folks are concerned about the recent spat of Microsoft ads knocking the high cost of ownership of Macs and the “Apple tax,” it all boils down to this: if nothing matters except getting a bargain basement computer as cheaply as possible, get a PeeCee.

Macs more expensive? Not if you consider TCO

Recently, two analysts said that the common perception of Macs as pricey items is indeed true. Richard Shim, an analyst at market research firm IDC, and Ian Lao, an analyst at In-Stat, said that, without significant price cuts, Macs continue to cost between 25 and 40 percent more than PC hardware of equivalent specs, say both Shim and Lao.The Sellers Research Firm disagrees.

Mac share approaching 10 percent

The Mac's market share is approaching 10 percent, at least according to one company. Now Apple should set the bar even higher.

Cloud Computing -- Computing Without the Hardware…Software…Support…Fun

| The concept is great everything is handled for you in the cloud...you can focus on work and not updating, rebooting your system (yeah like Macs don't
have that problem too). You can grab/store anything/everything and never have to worry about buying a new HD or losing your storage. It's all done
in the cloud.
Problems are though:
- governments have just relaxed the laws on tapping into your (or someone else's system because...well they can
- sounds like Startrek..."To bravely go where no man has gone before..." Nope think we'll be #2
- don't clouds often hang around mountains and if your work is flying through one of them...WHAP!
- of course you know who's in charge of the cloud and maintaining "your" computing, "your" data/content

Are Macs and Wal-Marts a good match?

| Apparently, there are plans afoot for Wal-Mart to sell Macs, as well as iPhones and iPods, in at least some of their stores. I'm not sure that's a good idea, but it's worth pursuing, at least on a trial basis.

Why Your Brand is Your Fortune

You may think Nike sells shoes and Apple sells Macs and iPhones, but you’re wrong. They sell their brand. Developing a powerful brand can spell the difference between struggling to make ends meet and achieving real success. Why is developing a successful brand so important? Take a Nike shoe or an iPhone and replace the known brand name with a generic label: you’ve just demonetized both products. Both are as functional as they were before, but neither is as valuable. A brand is an experience and a label or logo is what symbolizes that experience. It in essence becomes the experience.
