Where is This Country's Integrity --- Navy Seals
Media sensationalism can have a dramatic impact on public opinion. It's often times hard to ignore. Think about the Tiger Woods incident or what the American Idol's Adam Lambert who Tracy used to adore until he performed his perverted sexual imitation on stage at the American Music Awards. Then there are the White House party crashers; the media just can't seem to get enough of these stories that really have nothing to do with the substance of society except that they demonstrate how low we have sunk. The major news papers and most of the television news channels just can't get enough of "Balloon Boy", "The Octamom", Tiger's Sex Life", "The Health Care Fiasco" and many other non sense stories and yet one of the most devastating- patriotism destroying morale destroying decisions of the century is getting very little coverage.

Do Your Homework (Really)
Before I meet with any new prospect I've been thinking of introducing myself to, I make damn sure I do my homework. And when I say homework, I mean more than checking to see if the company has a website by typing www.amazon.com to do research on a marketing executive at Amazon. Sure, you should be up-to-date with the major news about the prospect's company. But what you really want to know is more personal. Think of it this way: A good salesperson does research on companies; a great salesperson does research on people.

Watch who you let near your mind
With the Sub-prime market issue in the US and its effects on countries and the world’s stock markets featuring as a daily major news item at present who can blame people for getting a bit nervous and worried about the future. You can see it with the panic selling of shares and so forth. However if we let this and other issues get to us and allow ourselves to blow things out of all proportion we can, in turn, create our own demise. Whilst it is critical for business owners and sales people to keep abreast of market changes and challenges we can let real and, more often than not, perceived threats get the better of us.

Do You Know Where Your Disaster Recovery Plan Is
Disasters of major magnitude are major news again after the Gulf coast region of the United States was hit by 2 major hurricanes. So it is very timely for me to ask each of you: “Do you know where your disaster recovery plan is?” “Do you even have a disaster recovery plan or crisis management plan?” “What business contingency plans do you have?” I am very concerned that in too many cases the answers would be “No” “No” and “None!” The plain hard truth is that if your business is going to continue to perform at a profitable or administratively adequate level when a crisis occurs, crisis/emergency planning is imperative. You must have a properly prepared disaster recovery plan in place and have the appropriate staff fully briefed on their responsibilities.

More Strategic PR Advice From Your PR Doctor

Reign in Rage by Beating Hurry Sickness
Almost every day, we are confronted with stories in the news about people taking out their anger on perfect strangers: on the roads, in parking lots, even while riding a big wave. These incidences of rage seem to be on the rise, and while they make a great news story, we need to know the causes and the consequences of rageful acts, as well as what changes we can make today to avoid chaos tomorrow. This two part article focuses on the nature of rage, and then provides tips on how to beat Hurry Sickness, one of the major causes of rage.

Fire Steve Ballmer. Or hire SuperNanny. Or Both.
Is no news good news? Most people expected something on the MSFT/YHOO front over the weekend, and such folks are generally reading the absence of information as bad news.

What are the Upsides of This Major Downturn?
Well, we've all heard plenty about the major down turn that we're in the midst of. The news media is having a real hay day with it all. Unemployment continues to rise, home foreclosures are everywhere, and no one seems to know quite what to do about it all. But let's take a step back and look at this from a different perspective. Let's say for the moment that we live in a universe where there are no accidents. I know that can be a bit of a challenge in its own right, especially when it looks like there's been a major accident on the universal freeway, but I don't think so. I think it's more likely that we've been paid a visit from the Universal UPS Truck.

Staying Current and Adjusting in the Retail Business
In the not too long ago past there were three main sources of live news; TV, newspaper and the radio. This older format allowed people to either look at or not look at what was being presented by the media. Nowadays, there are countless sources of live news, thanks to the Internet. So, with so many sources of news, I select only the subject matter I am interested in and sources that I find to be accurate; hence "selectively". It is obvious that we are in an economic crisis, which is old news. But it wasn't old news back in September or October of 2008. I knew that the economy was being steered into a storm, like nothing I had ever seen before.

Why Bad News Sells
I was having a meeting with the director of a division of child services for Virginia the other day and we got on the subject of reports about foster parents. She told me how disheartened she was that stories of poor care make the front page but stories like the one about a man in the Northern Neck who fostered a teen with AIDS through his last year of life go unnoticed. A quick check of the headlines on any major news website confirmed her viewpoint. That got me thinking about why bad news sells.

Three secrets of how to use press releases to promote your business or web site.
News releases are no longer for the news. Press releases and news announcements now serve many different functions in addition to being source material for journalists to write about. But you don't need big news - little stories are also valuable. Yes, it is good to have BIG news that will motivate a writer, editor or journalist to write about your company, product or service, but that is no longer the only reason to create a press release. You don't need big news - just a good hook. Whether or not you use a public relations agency or do it yourself, here are three good reasons why you should try to write and distribute at least one press release every month.

News Releases: Writing to Get Noticed
News releases are a great way to gain visibility. The very concept of what constitutes news has changed and this article will show you how to create and distribute news releases effectively for today's media environment, with tips on how to develop news release topics.

Don't Become a Digital Dinosaur
Today's Internet means amateurs have more power than ever before. This is good news and bad news. The good news is that anybody can have their say. But the bad news is that anybody can have their say! If you still want to be "The Go To Guy/Gal" in your area of expertise, you'd better be out there, making a contribution. You can bet your life somebody is else doing it - on your turf, to your clients, in your market.
