There are always opportunities
These are not good times for retailers. The unemployment rate is very high, and those who have jobs are afraid of losing them.. The spending habits of people have changed and unless they get a good bargain, will think twice before opening up their pocketbooks. The morals of most of the people in my industry – retailers, tenant coordinators, architects, store planners, contractors, fixture vendors etc., seem to be at the lowest point since I have known them. These are people who at one time were extremely positive. Some are predicting that things will not get better till 2013 – the sense of impending doom is everywhere!!!!!! This is the very same reason I, on the other hand am extremely optimistic!! Granted, I don’t have a crystal ball to see the future, BUT, there are plenty of reasons to be upbeat about the future.

How to maximize store sales during the holiday season
The big question everyone is asking these days is if retailers are ready for the upcoming holiday season. There have been numerous predictions and discussions on how malls and retailers are going to fare. An article in the Wall Street Journal last Tuesday mentioned that forecasters expect a better season for U.S retailers this year, but prices will be more discounted to get consumers into the stores. Another article mentioned that the National Retail Federation expects holiday sales to rise 2.3% from last year. And The International Council of Shopping Centers predicts holiday sales to increase anywhere from 3% to 3.5%. The Corporate News Headline in the WSJ on Thursday was, “Malls begin the healing process, vacancy rate improved for the first times since 2006.” So, things seem to be looking up – BUT, are they?

Facts or Friction
A while back Peter Diamond, Dale Mortensen and Christopher Pissarides won the 2010 Nobel Prize for Economics. They developed theories that help explain how economic policies affect unemployment, and WSJ writer Justin Lahart wrote and interesting piece about their work in Tuesday's paper. The article talked about their research in the difficulties the buyers and sellers face in finding each other in the marketplace, specifically applied to the job market. This search theory has since been applied to topics from such as the housing market all the way to searching for a spouse.

3 Devious MLM – Network Marketing Approaches
You know the feeling of being deceived into doing something. This article explores three different approaches used by network marketers who intentionally mislead you into viewing their home based business / mlm opportunity.

Palms Shopping Mall, Changing Retail Distribution in Nigeria
South Africa owned, Nigerian managed 'The Palms Shopping Mall' launched in 2005 is a major contributor to changing retail distribution and ultimately the retail experience for Nigerians, particularly the growing middle class to affluent. The Mall's opening provided significant channels of distribution to allow manufacturers reach buyers who are ready and able to spend.

Kiosks Offer Advantages in Owning a Franchise
Kiosk franchises can offer a great low-cost way to launch a business and in fact, many owners will leap in with multiple locations. With a low start-up cost and low overhead, kiosks have terrific margins. Add in that the location practically forces a customer to interact and you have a winning business combination.

The Secret Formula to Affiliate Success
The internet has become a reservoir for buyers and sellers. Consequently, this has to lead to wave of online malls pouring onto the internet. The customers are then left with websites that offer little, if any content, a lengthy URL which is not only forgettable but annoying to type in and a array of products tossed all over the webpage.

Why Customer Relationship Management (CRM)?
To recognize the value of customer loyalty, retailers are now re-building personal relationships with their customers. Customer has become more straight forward, intelligent and knows what he wants. CRM will help you understand your customers better and provide them with what they want.

Your New Web Site Business – What Different Business Models You Can You Use?
You want to set up an internet business but are not sure what kind of business model you want. Here are a few examples of the kind of businesses you usually find on the internet.

Neat Appearance in Sales and Management
You see, if you stand out people will notice you. If people are noticing you among the thousands in the crowd you never know when an opportunity will come your way that will enhance your life. How many times have you left your house just to run up to 7/11 or something and you’re hoping no one sees you? Well, we all know what happens. Of course, the one person you never wanted to see you in that condition pops up out of nowhere!

Getting Rich with Third Party Affiliate Programs
For most business scenarios, dealing with a third party should be kept to a limit as you want to have as much control over your operation as possible, except when it comes to the business of affiliate marketing and the concept of getting rich with these programs.

What Do I Want?
It happens before we know it. One day we're outside relaxing by the pool thinking of little else except whether to put on more sunscreen; then suddenly we're wrapping ourselves up in winter coats and heavy blankets trying to shake off the cold. We start saying things like, "This year has gone by so fast!" Or, "Where did the time go?" Or, "Can you believe it's already December?" Yes folks, there's no escaping it...

Customer Service in Japan
When travelling to Japan it is hard not to notice the politeness of the people, especially in the shops, malls, restaurants and other businesses. It is well worth a look at how and why they seem to have or at least present perfect customer service. We could learn a lot from them!

Managing Growth
When we look back at the excesses of a few short years ago the risk of rapid expansion becomes apparent. We are now paying it back. It didn’t take an astute businessman to question the seemingly endless development of cookie cutter strip malls that made any drive seem like the movie “Groundhog Day”. It wasn’t de javu but rather redundant development.

Home-based Business Idea: Personal Shopping Service
Starting a home-based business doing shopping for other people should start as part-time. Depending on the market and your progress, you may opt for more time spending at the shopping malls to choose an item of specific description from your clients. If the profits are impressive, you can make personal shopping as full-time career.

Location, Location, Location.
The popular real estate mantra "location, location, location" explains why some promising businesses fail in poor locations and mediocre businesses do so well in great locations. In order for any business to succeed, it should be situated in a location which has good visibility, accessibility and heavy traffic of potential customers. Regional and outlet malls, lifestyle centers, urban street locations, and Hotels and Resorts with designated shopping and dining areas all meet this criterion.

The Appeal of the Kiosk Coffee Franchise
Many malls and shopping centers around the country have them, even some supermarkets in select areas have them as well. I'm talking about the coffee franchise kiosks. They are a great and inexpensive investment for many would be franchise owners and they provide very low overhead with a potentially high return on investment as there is almost always foot traffic in the malls and shopping centers they populate.

Retail Incentives: Free Samples For Foot Traffic
Free samples work to bring customers in the door. The challenge for any company is to get the word out that you are offering those free samples. Large promotional signs and messages in store windows, on billboards and added on the bottom of receipts can be used to get the message across to bring people into the store to get their free sample. Depending on the location of the store, sometimes it pays to have a greeter standing at the front door handing samples out to consumers as they walk by. This technique works well in shopping malls and in other high traffic areas. It's no secret that consumers love free things and will often come into the store simply to pick up an advertised giveaway. The hope is that those customers will buy something else once they are there.
