We speak of government as if it were our neighbor, pastor, teacher, friend or foe. It is none of these and yet it is all of these. Government, at any level, is simply an organizational structure and is incapable of any action or activity until people are inserted into the equation. Our founding fathers meant it when they said “of the people, by the people and for the people”
So the problem and/or solution lie with us.

| I know the government has specific initiatives to recruit and hire small business contractors for governmental projects but how can I get these jobs? I started my search on this topic at the source, the government. On the SBA website there are tutorials on how to apply for and win government contracts. By taking one of these convenient online courses all of my questions were answered. I want to share some of this information but I would also recommend that anyone interested in acquiring government contracts take this online course themselves. |

Education + Infrastructure + Innovation

| We're not certain if President Obama borrowed the ideas -- education, infrastructure, innovation - -from others or came up with his own hook for his state of the union speech but he did lay down the gauntlet. We do know government officials around the globe has laid down the challenge of innovation for their citizens. Every Csuite executive has told his/her stakeholders that the company will innovate and be competitive leaders. We'll talk about a lot of innovations before we get one that works. And innovation is going to take a long time to have a positive impact so let's not abandon it too soon.

| The big news these days is the federal government’s debt ceiling. Every time Washington gets into one of these messes - which it does a lot - people renew the discussion about how government should be run. “If I ran my company the way they run the government…” The outcome is usually bankruptcy or prison. Should government be run like a business? That’s a debate for another article. But, the surprising thing is many business ARE run like the government. Do you understand how to manage cash flow in your business? Does your company cater to special interests, waste money or time or push problems aside instead of addressing the real issue? |

| We have to renew limited government in the United States, or the entire world will enter a new era of darkness the likes of which no one can foresee. There are at least ten limits we could impose on government (and, in some cases, on what I see as quasi-governmental U.S. institutions) that would have a remarkable turn-around impact on our economy - and on our society.
