Ask These Questions Before Becoming A Franchisee
| |
| Recently I took a short business trip which required some air travel. My traveling companion on the way back, not getting my subtle hint of isolation that my Ipod Touch and headphones projected asked me about my trip and then my profession.
What followed was a series of questions that started out in very familiar terms: "You know, I have always wondered about getting into business for myself but I'm not sure I'm qualified or that it's right for me. " What followed was most of the following questions that are commonplace and typical. So, in only a mild order of importance or, more to the point the way they seem to flow, are my twelve or so typical questions people have burning in their bosoms about franchise business ownership.

But, she was working harder than ever and her dreams of taking long holidays in the sun seemed to be a distant fantasy.

Know Your Market
| |
| Whether you are starting a new company, launching a new business initiative or spinning out a company, the first and most important thing you must do is know your business. I think there are two constituencies that you have to convince, other than yourself. First, you have to know your business concisely enough so that you can quickly explain it to your grandmother; so that she understands it. The second is you have to comprehensively explain it to sophisticated investors so that they are convinced it's an attractive investment. If you can do this successfully, you understand the business. |

HOW TO DEMOGRAPHICALLY AND GEOGRAPHICALY SEGMENT THE MARKET FOR EFFECTIVE ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION.
| |
| I have talked about segmenting the market before, but it does not hurt to repeat. This is because segmenting your market makes you focus on what you want to do for your business and what is your target market profile. This is by understanding which market segments you are going to attack and which ones you are going to ignore. Segmenting the market is a step by step process, but before be get to that process we need to understand two different ways that we can segment the market for business development as well as for advertisement, promotions and community social responsibility. |

Can you satisfy these customer segments or who wants You?
| |
| Not every segment can be profitable to you. Not every segment is worth the risk. You must remember what allows you to make margin and not try to be someone that you are not. You may want to look at it this way, Who want's you? |
|
|
Can you retain this customer?
| |
| Do you really look at this as a consideration when developing your marketing segments and the value you place on acquiring a certain type of customer? Most of us look at repeat and referral strategies across the board for every segment. Consider the segment or that type of customer that you acquire that always seems to give you the benefit of the doubt or refer business to you. Should you not be biased in how you allocate your resources to that segment? |
