Yes, indeed, oral business contracts are enforceable… but written contracts are preferable. Would that they were all so smooth (hint: they aren't).

Coin Laundromats - Secret to Getting More Customers and Business
If you want more customers and more profits from your business, you'll want to read this amazing success story, and find out how you might benefit from it. I was chatting with my good friend, Jim Kaspari, the other day to find out what he's been up to. Jim has been a business coach and marketing consultant for the last 5 years and has helped hundreds of clients in 6 countries improve their businesses. He told me how he recently got this new client who owned some businesses, including coincidentally, a couple of laundromats. His client was having some big problems and asked Jim for his help. When I heard what Jim did for his client, I told him that I wanted to share this experience so others could implement some of those same strategies and start ramping up their businesses.

Website Domains: 7 Things Your Web Marketer or Designer Might Not Tell You
Most businesses who hire a web marketing company or designer to put up a website are more interested in results than process. Take the time to understand the steps your consultant or designer wish to take, and speak up if something just doesn’t seem right. Know what will and will not be attached to your name, your business and your reputation when the transaction is complete. You are still your best advocate for the welfare and protection of your business’ web operation, and reputation.

Ashamed of being in sales
Over the years I have met many sales people who are really good at selling, have all the ingredients, write great sales results and are highly valued by their companies, yet they never feel satisfied in their sales career. The afflicted sales person just feels a sense of unease and guilt about being in sales, a disquiet that never seems to get resolved.

What Makes Your Business So Special?
The one question every business, branding, and marketing consultant asks is "what makes you special; what makes you different?" If you want to grow your business and get to the next level, defining what makes you special is a good place to start. Most businesses are copycat companies, selling the same thing, in the same way as most of their competitors, making for a real challenge in providing an adequate answer to the "what makes you so special?" question. But fear not, it is easier than you think.

Put the Competition in the Rear View Mirror
Competitive assessment is one of the most powerful tools we have in our quiver. Yet IMHO so few companies actually assess the competition in a way that works. We spend time evaluating our competitor's technology foundations, comparing feature against feature. We look for every detail that we can use to prove that our technology is far superior to that of others. Too bad that having the best technology doesn't mean you win....or that having the most features doesn't guarantee customer success. If the best technology won, then today's industry giants wouldn't be so, um, giant, now would they? Don't get me wrong. Understanding your competitor's technology and its capabilities is a worthwhile exercise. As long as you don't fall into the trap of defining your solutions based on their features - and become a follower.

The Differences Between Marketing and Sales
It is very interesting, in my work as a consultant, to hear how people interchange the terms sales and marketing. It is very common for sales people to refer to themselves as marketing representatives and for marketing managers to have no idea about the sales process and how it fits into their marketing efforts. Here is a basic summary of the very different roles of marketing and sales.

Consultants Can Be Scary but Do They Provide Value
As a CEO before I became a consultant ten years ago I had very little time for consultants and did not have a high opinion of them. One of the things that always stuck in my craw - and still does for that matter -- is to see a consultant conduct sales training that never actually carried a bag themselves. Some have very little if any experience in the field as an outside sales person. Even more concerning is to watch a consultant give leadership or business acumen advice when that consultant never had to meet a payroll or run a company personally. Consultants can provide real value on many occasions but they can also be your worst nightmare.

Team Marketing: The Right Approach
Marketing/PR consultants will take one of two approaches in working with their clients. One approach is to treat a client as a client where they offer work and advice and have no vested interest in the outcome. The other approach is when the consultant makes him/herself part of the marketing team so there may not be a financial or equity interest in the client’s business, but as part of a team the consultant exhibits more of an interest to achieve success. I suggest the latter approach.
