2.0 The African Entrepreneur Demographic Characteristics: Entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in Africa
| |
| Various personal demographic variables appear to differentiate successful from less successful entrepreneurs in Africa, as they do elsewhere (Kallon, 1990; Mead, 1999; Mead & Liedholm, 1998; Stewart, 1996). Earlier studies found that successful African entrepreneurs tended to be male, middle-aged, married with a number of children, and more educated that the general population. |

How Smart Women Stay Busy
| |
| I have the good fortune to spend meaningful time with a lot of smart women who keep me on track about what’s going on in women’s lives. One topic that resonates with many of these women (and with me) is the idea of busyness. It is vital that we as women take the time to explore what provides us with meaning, energy, and passion. Whether we are married or unmarried, with children or without, we all have the same number of hours in the day. We can spend those hours doing things that energize us. |

Child and Spousal Support-Common Law Relationships
| |
| Children of parents living in a common law relationship have the same rights to support from their parents as the children of married couples. The amount of support is set under the Child Support Guidelines, and only the payor’s income is used to determine payment. As part of a support order for you or your child, you may also ask to stay in the home you shared when you lived together. This is different than for married couples who automatically have an equal right to stay in the home. |

Making a Difference in People’s Lives: How to Find Your Purpose
| |
| Ever wonder why some people have a sense of purpose or reason and you don’t?
I wondered this about myself many years ago and then went searching for my purpose.
I was working a sales job that just wasn’t doing it for me. The money was okay but at the end of the day when I asked myself “what have I done today?” I couldn’t come up with anything substantial or meaningful.
I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the world but I didn’t know how. I wanted my children’s children’s children to know who I was and why I was important. |

It’s Not Just Who You Know … It’s Who You Associate With!
| |
| I am always amazed when I see a couple who has been married for several years and they have adopted each others mannerisms and facial expressions. Sometimes it seems as though they underwent some crazy DNA experiment and were morphing into each other.
It's not that difficult to understand how it happens when you think about it. We all share little sayings, inside jokes, private stories, and even similar philosophies on life. After all, your spouse is the person you spend the most time with. Well ... in most cases. :)
These same traits, philosophies, and mannersims are transfered into our children as they are being brought up and maturing into adults. Although our children share our DNA and are predisposed to looking like us, there are many other characteristics they pick up from associating with us throughout their formative years. |

The Power of Your Child’s Imagination by Charlotte Reznick PhD
| |
| I'm a firm believer that we need to encourage creativity in children. There are many businesses where creativity is crucial - how many successful entrepreneurs do you know that have limited creativity? The ones I know - are very creative in many areas of their business. We all know that children are the entrepreneurs of the future and it seems the creativity many of us take for granted isn't encouraged in children in the 21st century. So - this review is about a book that I hope parents and other people who work with children will take a close look at. Dr Reznick gives us wonderful tools to help develop a child's imagination and creativity, but also to help children be happier. For all the parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, mentors etc - this is a book you need to read. |

Women in Business – Entrepreneurial Tip #1
| |
| Although most women are attracted to entrepreneurship for positive reasons, the past 20 years have seen a rise in such motives as frustration with work environments, the desire for greater challenges and more flexibility.
