“Seven Reasons Why You Need A Strategic Planning Facilitator, According To Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach”
| |
| A professional facilitator brings an independent and open-minded perspective to your strategic planning process. He or she will keep the discussion focused, keep the process on track, and will encourage team members to act as equals in the process. Some organizations choose to “go it alone” and attempt to conduct the strategic planning process entirely “in house.” In my own personal and professional experiences over more than 35 years, I have always witnessed better outcomes of the strategic planning process when an outside professional facilitator is brought in. In fact, many of my clients come to me AFTER they have tried and failed at doing the process themselves.
Here are seven reasons why it is recommended that you hire an outside facilitator. |

How often do You Think ‘Outside the Box’?
| |
| ‘Thinking outside the box’ is a bit of a buzz phrase at the moment in the business world. That said, it really is an extremely effective process.
Each process (and there are usually many) in a revenue-generating, production, operational, financial or personnel activity can be improved anywhere from 3% or 4% all the way up to 100% and more.
What would happen if there was always room in nearly every process for improvement... always! A process is only as good until the next idea that improves it further.

It’s Not Just Who You Know … It’s Who You Associate With!
| |
| I am always amazed when I see a couple who has been married for several years and they have adopted each others mannerisms and facial expressions. Sometimes it seems as though they underwent some crazy DNA experiment and were morphing into each other.
It's not that difficult to understand how it happens when you think about it. We all share little sayings, inside jokes, private stories, and even similar philosophies on life. After all, your spouse is the person you spend the most time with. Well ... in most cases. :)
These same traits, philosophies, and mannersims are transfered into our children as they are being brought up and maturing into adults. Although our children share our DNA and are predisposed to looking like us, there are many other characteristics they pick up from associating with us throughout their formative years. |

Growing Up: Time only flies when you throw your watch!
| |
| When I was 16, I wanted to be 18. At 18, I wanted to be 21. To me each age meant I was grown; what I never considered was the growth I needed between them - because maturing is a process that brings along two friends: responsibility and challenges.
Every professional or personal challenge I experienced and every lesson I learned was typically about me recognizing and managing the lines in my life: learning when to cross them, when to draw them and when to read between them.

A Battle for the Mind
| |
| Almost every person is born with virtually unlimited potential in terms of their ability to develop. Not everyone can be (or wants to be) an elite athlete or a Nobel Prize winner, but almost anyone can mature to be the person that he or she wants to be. The problem is that, in many cases, this maturing is negatively impacted by our self-talk. And much self talk arises out of feedback we experience. Third Generation Leadership operates in a different mind space. |

Dampening Disappointments
| |
| Bouncing back from non-starters, disappointing results and criticism are part of our maturing process. Sure, these can hurt us emotionally yet they are bound to occur, at the most unexpected moments. These can be prevalent in performance appraisals, sales interviews, and business proposals. |
