Feeling Out Of Your League
We’ve all felt it from time to time – the anticipation of getting an autograph from a childhood hero, the nervous energy before making a sales call with the major industry player, the one-of-a-kind rush and paralysis that comes from feeling just a bit out of your league.

Your Vulnerability Is Your Strength!
At conferences and trainings, we're always trying to get people to have deeper, more meaningful conversations, to let their guard down and share their vulnerabilities and passions -- the stuff that makes us all human! I've heard so many touching stories recently from people who had the courage to try it. Two examples:

How can I improve that first cold contact with a potential client?
Cold-calling is as much about process, support and leverage as it is about dealing with rejection and maintaining enthusiasm. You have to work to a structured plan and initiative contact as you would a warm referral, i.e. I know who you and your competitors are - and the reason for my call is to help you, just like I have helped others in your space.

My boss wants me to cold call, but I have call reluctance!
Words are meaningless without emotion and emotions are very hard to experience over the phone. In fact, over 50% of communication is achieved via non-verbal cues, such as facial expression, gesture and posture. That means most cold-callers, even the really good ones, are still limited by these phone related challenges. So be mindful, if you are choosing the telephone as your initial point of contact and introduction with a potential customer, you are already on the back foot, which means you need to work smarter.

BEING THE BEST MEANS CREATING A SELF MANAGING CULTURE
Self Management is the #1 Competency of Successful cultures and of successful people. Take a look at any top performers or top companies and the clues to their success are evident. They make and keep commitments, are self driven, and focus on the value the bring to those they serve and those they work with. Managers coach through meaningful conversations and walk their talk.

New Manager LifeSavers
A spark from "Survivor" gives a key to success for new managers. The fun, the motivation and drive come from saying you'll do it, and doing it. When a manager fans those passionate sparks into flames great things happen. These are critical elements in increasing productivity, building trust and worthwhile relationships.

When Cold Calls Become a "Dog and Pony Show"
What happens when you’ve made a cold call and your prospect invites you to make a sales presentation? At this point, you might have a hard time creating a two-way conversation because you’re forced to go in with a canned sales pitch and try to get them to buy your solution. After all, you do believe in your solution don’t you? You can help most people, so all you have to do is show them how. Oh, and in the end, get them to buy. Be sure to ask for that order at the end of your presentation.

Changing What's Normal Conversations
Two trends I like in professional speaking are that presenters are more and more catalysts for conversation and there is an audience expectation of the speaker to engage in conversation. I love these trends as they are a personal preference. Conversations of meaning are a challenge for most people particularly in the age of all things digital. Here are my top twelve tips for engaging in meaningful conversations:
