Inspirational Leaders Are Persistent
If you want to be inspirational, you have to be inspired. And to be inspired, you have to be able to see yourself as a success, which will only happen through persistence. So don't quit trying. You're going to succeed. You may not have the opportunity or calling for the sort of heroism displayed by the likes of Sal Giunta... but in your own little circle you can do great things.

Urgency
Doing lots of things, multi-tasking and running yourself and the people around you hard is exhausting. But after all the sweat and agitation at the end of every day -- you can't necessarily say that you've created the constructive urgency that moves groups to bigger and better things. You need to re-assess, to create urgency that works for you, for the individuals you lead, and for the organizations you aim to take into the future.

How to run a gold medal business
We are now in the middle of the Olympics and every evening I watch the highlights on TV. I marvel at how the athletes can pull exceptional performance out of the bag, when the pressure is on and there are hundredths of a second between win or lose. So having achieved the heady heights of running for Scotland in athletics here are my five tips to help you run a gold medal business.

Better Together
During the Beijing Olympics, beach volleyball players Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh were undefeated in their second gold medal Olympics, with an amazing record of 108 consecutive wins. Watching the advancing duo during the Olympic coverage, I heard commentators mention that when either woman was asked during interviews which one of them was better, they responded, "We're better together."

I have had the honor of working in media for over a decade. I'm amazed at how the industry can make or break your business if you don't use it to your advantage.

Life Coaching | Business Coaching: How To Clarify Your Values
As people get busier and busier with their lives, career and work, often the things most important to them, get neglected. The path to a more fulfilling life is to honor your values on a daily basis. The Best Decline Letter of All-Time: Edmund Wilson
Edmund Wilson, recipient of both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal for Literature, was one of the most prominent social and literary critics of the 20th century. He realized, like most uber-productive people, that, while there were many behaviors needed to guarantee high output, there was one single behavior guaranteed to prevent all output:

Thrill of Victory
To dream and to actually visualize yourself achieving your goals and dreams is a key factor in finding success. During the Olympics athletes have shared stories that early in their lives they actually had drawn pictures of themselves on the podium receiving an Olympic medal. They started early in life visualizing their success and allowed the images to imprint on their minds.

Playing to Win and Not to Not Lose

Chicken or Beef?
As a former national champion Olympic weightlifter, one of my prized possessions is my gold medal. It is a very special momento to me, which I display in my office. Recently, I was traveling on an airplane, and I met a unique gentleman seated next to me. If they ever add an Olympic event called the Marathon Bad Attitude, this gentleman will have a gold medal, too. Shortly after introducing myself, he told me he didn't like the airline we were flying on, the seats, the aisles, or our flight attendant. He went on to inform me he didn't like the city we were in, the airport we were connecting through, or our final destination. I don't think he liked me either, but we didn't get that far into the conversation.
