Social Media Marketing…The Challenge of Herding Cats

Social media marketing, communications. Gawd it sounds like soooo much fun...so interesting...so challenging...so mano y mano! Too bad everyone thinks of it as just another marketing/advertising tool to push ideas, products at folks. That isn't what social media communications is all about. It's about the customer. So start with the one you've got. Work with him/her. Make them happy...very happy. Help them be your advocates, your promoters. They'll tell a few folks how good your company, products, services are and in "almost" no time word will spread round the globe. Get out there. Get your hands dirty. You can't herd cats. You can't herd consumers. Get in the saddle with the attitude you can and they'll turn on you. Show they why your product/service is so good. Show them how to install, troubleshoot, use it. Then ..

Digital Branding is Great ... But Don't Forget The Strategy!

It has come to my attention recently that many clients are getting frustrated with all the "Social Media experts" because they forget about the strategy. One thing everyone needs to remember: you can't forget the strategy.

Expertise

As consultant and trainer I always teach the value of being an expert. There’s no doubt that as an expert it’s just as important to be an expert in not just product knowledge, but in your subject matter as well. This knowledge helps your confident in front of a customer or audience. It also gives you the ability to ask excellent and relevant questions. You can quote famous people and books to position yourself as an expert, but you can’t fake expertise very long.

PR for Attorneys

| An attorney who is featured in the media is the news. He or she is featured as an expert in the field. Different forms of advertising and marketing can serve their purpose, but only PR has the ability to offer credibility and validation. PR, the law, and the media have a symbiotic relationship. The media and the public need experts to discuss legal issues and attorneys need the media to reach their target market and position themselves as experts in their fields.

How to Communicate with Traditional Media Effectively

The first order of business when beginning a PR campaign is to figure out your stories. Study the media and what kinds of stories they cover, especially when it is a specific topic in which they interview an expert in that field to bring more credibility to the story. For example, if the media is discussing a top athlete’s recent injury and they need a doctor or pain specialist to comment on this, you could be that doctor.
