Imagine
| |
| It was seven o’clock on a slightly drizzly, busy Saturday night and the 405 freeway was jammed with cars. Unlike what you may see in the movies, there were no horns honking, no raised fists, or yelled epithets. Los Angeles drivers know there’s bunched up traffic on Saturday night and know that fretting about it won’t get them where they’re going any faster. So everyone waited patiently in their metal cubicles as they snaked along to their various destinations.... |

5 simple steps to achieving and maintaining Organizational Clarity
| |
| Do you have Organizational Clarity? No I don't mean do you have a plaque posted in your lobby that has your vision, mission and values printed on it. Or that you have your vision, mission and values posted on your website for all to see. I'm talking about true Organizational Clarity where everyone in the organization from the Cleaner to the CEO, from the Accountant to the Customer Service Representative is on the same page and talking the same language. Why and Why Not?
| |
| I am reminded of a quote that became famous at Robert Kennedy's memorial service. "Some men see things as they are and say ‘Why?' I dream of things that never were and say, ‘Why not?'"
In our society, we have become so risk-averse that we often endanger creativity. We hire consultants to tell us what is possible, but they define "possible" by determining what has already been done. It is important to realize that prior to every great advancement of humankind, the experts of the day would have assured you that it was impossible.

The Sleeping Giant
| |
| Recently during a speaking engagement in Hawaii, I had the privilege of touring Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. It is a moving experience that I would recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to take advantage of it. From time to time, it is good to be reminded that freedom comes at a very high price.

Neon Hypocrisy
| |
| Many organizations have a value that states "employees are our most important asset." The value hangs in the lobby on a plaque, but it is not reflected in the actions of leaders, so it shines like a neon sign that lowers trust. This article suggests some things that can change the pattern. |
