A recent study looked at the direct relationship between grades and sleep. Researchers found that students who received not only more sleep---but also a better quality of sleep, got more As and Bs, while the teens who got less sleep received more Cs and Ds. |

| Making that transition from holiday mode to classroom.
How excited do kids get with the start of school approaching? Getting kids to go from the freedom of school holidays to move to that place of being settled and ready for school can be a challenge for some parents. Many children now days are identified as being ADD and ADHD I call these kids “go fasts” and the transition from holidays to school can be a bit more of a challenge for these kids. Teaching Sales in School is Like Learning to Golf on the Wii
| |
| They're finally teaching sales in school - yeah! And even more surprisingly, kids are actually taking the classes - yeah again! Why surprisingly? How many of your salespeople selected, as their primary career choice, sales?
Kids get a sense that selling is an honorable profession! This post, from November of 2008, demonstrates each of the last two points - kids don't choose sales because, well, they don't believe it's honorable... |

New School Year: Lessons from a Middle Schooler
| |
| Today is the first day of school in Michigan and I am the new mom to a Middle Schooler!. Time has flown so quickly. It seems like just yesterday that I was holding him in the rocking chair in his room. I remember looking at his little legs and thinking to myself, some day his legs will hang over mine when he sits on my lap. I cant even imagine it. And now here we are, its been years since hes spent any time on my lap. His legs would almost hit the ground, all in the blink of an eye. Where has the time gone?
I watch with amazement as he heads off to Middle School with nothing more than anticipation. Hallways to maneuver, new school, way more kids, lockers and classes to find. His elementary school is nothing more than a fond memory and he is ready to move on. I am so proud of him today!

Become an Organized Caregiver: Master the Art of Herding Cats
| |
| Recently I received a call from a woman who attended my Balancing Work & Eldercare Needs seminar about a year ago asking if I would email or fax to her the information on "Mastering the Master Schedule". Apparently, with 2 kids entering middle school, she was feeling overwhelmed - much the same way she did when taking care of her father - like she was herding cats! She said she remembered how much the master schedule had helped her and her sister organize their father's care and thought it would be perfect to get her children's schedule under control, too!! |

The SEO experts shoes
| |
| You've heard the tale of the cobbler's children who have the most worn shoes at school? Shoes full of holes, patched up, leaking, broken to pieces. Smart kids, clean tidy haircuts kids, well mannered, good natured, hard working, fun to be around - it's just the shoes that look out of place and tatty. |

Is Paranoia an Acquired Taste?
| |
| In "Don't Bring It to Work" the underlying idea is that when stress hits the hot button we all revert to behavior patterns we learned as kids in our original organization, the family for protection and survival. That is what seems to be showing up around our country in this time of sadness and confusion.
The knee-jerk reactions are so similar to ones that we can all remember when disagreements broke out in elementary and middle school playgrounds. We were given detentions, told to behave, but rarely sat down to really look at what started the upset in the first place.
