3.1 The public sector: Training priorities, resources and reorientation
"While there is long history of poverty-focused training in developed industrial economies, it is still relatively rare in the large majority of developing countries where most of the poor live" (Malik, 1996:46). This seems particularly ironic given that most of the world's poor live in developing countries. The following discussion looks at why public sector training priorities continue to favour non-poor groups. We shall focus in particular on the design of poverty reduction programmes, overall resource availability and competing claims over training resources from other sectors and groups.

Using the Right SMB Sales Approach
The sales approach to employ in the SMB accounts depends upon a number of factors, such as the culture of your organization, the offerings you sell, and what the customer needs from you in the sales process. Knowing when to use a solution sales approach versus a consultative sales approach is a dilemma that confronts many sellers and directly impacts your odds of success.

Markus Frind and Plenty of Fish - A Case Study in Effective Sales and Marketing Strategy
A couple weeks ago, I read one of the most compelling articles on a growing business that I have read in years. In his article entitled, "And the Money Comes Rolling In", Inc. Magazine writer Max Chafkin talks about Markus Frind's strategies for growing his personal dating website, Plenty Of Fish. Frind's idea was to build a basic user-content-driven website and pay for it with ads. He started from scratch and built out a minimalist site by anyone's standards (look at it now and there still isn't anything too impressive - distorted personal pictures and a heart favicon). But the idea resonated with thousands of people who were paying for a dating service and looking for a free alternative. He is now clearing $5 million a year after taxes. He has a handful of staff members and a nice, but mostly unfurnished, office in Vancouver.

There’s a World Between eMail, Games
It's a little strange out there. There's a huge demand for minimalist portable computers. There's a giant demand for heavy honkers that serious gamers carry, open and use to test their eye/hand coordination and ability to concentrate. And the rest of us? We don't know a lot about GPUs (Graphic Processor Units) but we do know if you want a notebook with a really good one you usually look at Dell's Alienware or Acer's Ferarri or colorful HP notebook that looks like it would take a bullet for you. That's just great we're back looking at $2,500 + systems. Why can't we get a good all purpose system that won't melt our polyester pants with a battery that will continue to breathe for the length of our flight. All of the components are optomized in their own isolated environment.

Network Marketing Prospecting: Cockamamie Fridays
In the past network marketers used a subtle, back door approach to pitch you on their product or service. Today it is a wham-bam in your face approach: come and get it. Now.

Team Marketing: The Right Approach
Marketing/PR consultants will take one of two approaches in working with their clients. One approach is to treat a client as a client where they offer work and advice and have no vested interest in the outcome. The other approach is when the consultant makes him/herself part of the marketing team so there may not be a financial or equity interest in the client’s business, but as part of a team the consultant exhibits more of an interest to achieve success. I suggest the latter approach.

Open Doors with a Pitch-Perfect Approach Strategy
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to creating a new relationship. Custom tailoring is the only way to go. Here’s a process to develop an approach strategy for building (or rebuilding) a relationship:

Know your magic numbers
The number of calls you make per sale depends on the level of buy-in your customer has. The risk associated with what you are selling. And the approach you apply for each conversation. Salespeople that go for the jugular on every call may get the odd quick win here and there, but more often than not a measured approach is more effective.

Commercial Real Estate Appraisal Sales Comparison Approach
The sales comparison approach is the most intuitive and best understood of the three approaches to value. Home buyers, companies renting office space and real estate investors all utilize this approach.
