On the Other Hand: The Flip Side of Entrepreneurship by Glenn Kelman
This is a guest posting by Glenn Kelman, CEO of Redfin, a company that enables people to buy homes online. He offers a counterpoint to my posting about how easy it is to make millions of dollars with "user-generated, long-tail, Web 2.0, social-networking, open-source content."

Are we All on the Same Page?
To tell great positioning stories, we need to give everyone the same frame of reference. Before we even get into the story - right up front. We need to place that paradigm shift right there in the middle of the table for all to see, and understand. We have to set the stage for everyone in a very, simple way.

How to Instantly Generate Big Ideas That Will Explode Your Business — the Billion Dollar Secrets I Stole from my Previous Employer
Most people say that you can replicate success by using tried and true methods; many say that copywriting is swiping a few files to replicate success. It works in some cases but if you want to take your success to a whole new level, you need a big idea. How do you generate Big Ideas? You don’t sit there and meditate and suddenly one big idea comes out... No, really. It doesn’t happen like that. You sit down, and generate 50 ideas. Or 100 ideas. Or even better, 300 ideas. And from there, I bet you that at least one of them will be good enough to explode your business to the next level. That’s the foundation –it’s always a numbers game. There are some who regard themselves gurus who can generate brilliant, problem-solving profit-booming ideas, instantly. However, the rest of us mere mortals need to keep trying and pushing.

Product/Service Acceptance, Success Beyond Statistics
The minute something new, exciting is introduced a few folks say it's going to take over the world in less than five years. After the second year of talking about, writing about the same thing the sucka only has 10% (or less) of the market. Obviously it's a dog, a miserable failure, a stupid idea the guys/gals never should have bothered to think about. What a dumb waste of your time, their money. So we scan the horizons for the next great thing and BAM!!! here it comes over the hill. Whooppee!!! Thank GAWD!!!! In less than five years.... Just doesn't work that way because: 1) mere mortals are slow and it takes them time to understand what it is, why they need/want it and 2) haven't even made good use of the last great thing. Wine, beer, heck good cheese need to age...so do good ideas.
