Winning is not an accident
| |
| As many of you already know I’m a bit of a sports enthusiast. Baseball & football are the sports I know the most about and I use many analogies, even with my clients who don’t care a lick about sports. After watching my local Baltimore Ravens team get their backsides handed to them by the New England Patriots, I couldn’t help but give credit where credit is due. Therefore, below is an excellent article by management consultant John Baldoni from the WHARTON CENTER FOR LEADERSHIP AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT about the winning formula developed by Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots. Unlike baseball, there is a salary cap in the NFL so you can’t buy championships. In the NFL you need solid leadership to win back to back championships as the Patriot’s have done and a third may be on the way. |

Every Journey Begins with a Single Step
| |
| Under Coach Vince Lombardi's direction, the Green Bay Packers collected 6 division titles, 5 NFL championships, 2 Super Bowls, and earned a record of 98-30-4. Lombardi knew a lot about winning and he understood that football is a game of inches. |

Wanted: jobs for Africa’s youth - Job Plans
| |
| However, most countries have not yet incorporated job creation plans into their national development frameworks. The national strategies include anti-poverty programmes, commonly based on Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs). These are documents developed with assistance from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to set national priorities, direct spending of debt-relief funds and coordinate donor programmes.

Socialized Medicine Pros and Cons
| |
| Each update on national healthcare insurance I hear on the TV talk shows has a political slant. According to some pundits the countries who use socialized medicine have hurt their economies and are forced to ration medical care to senior citizens. According to others they see the advantage or bonus of socialized medicine and all its positives and see none of the negative aspects of national health care.

Metropolitics: Why Local Government is the Solution to Preserve American Democracy (and Society)
| |
| It's quite unfortunate that American national elections are perceived as a Partisan Death Match through which 51% of the nation gets to impose its personal beliefs on the hapless 49% minority. America's Culture War (Kulturkampf for you Germans out there) is still raging, and is increasingly being fought over national social policy. |

If you REALLY want it, I’ll drop my price!
| |
| I went to the National.
I collect sports memorabilia and the National is the place where everyone who is a serious collector or dealer goes. People fly in from all over the world to buy and sell every kind of sports collectible imaginable. And fifty sports celebrities are there signing autographs (for a fee).

It's The Imaginary Economy, Stupid
| |
| It's a bit early, kind of, but the national media is really into this whole 2012 re-election campaign. And the eighty percent of national news personalities who tend to "lean forward" (possibly because it's much easier than trying to find and report actual facts) refer to it precisely as the "2012 re-election" because, well, they have determined that the president deserves your vote - again.... |
