History of American Sales Culture - part one
No American can afford to treat salesmanship as a small matter. Why? Because the United States started out on a salesmanship basis for this reason: because only thirteen states were gained by war and all the others were gained by purchase and bargaining.

African Brands
The question of whether Africa can or should be promoted as a brand, or whether this will better be done by promoting individual products and countries, developed into a theme during this session.

However, most countries have not yet incorporated job creation plans into their national development frameworks. The national strategies include anti-poverty programmes, commonly based on Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs). These are documents developed with assistance from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to set national priorities, direct spending of debt-relief funds and coordinate donor programmes.

National PR for a Local Story
Don’t be afraid to shoot for national coverage, think of national media as being local media with a huge spillover.

The Myth of Multitasking: How Doing It All Gets Nothing Done
Multitasking has become something of a heroic word in our vocabulary. Many executives pride themselves on their ability to “multitask”. Recent job descriptions that I have seen even ask that potential employees have the ability to multitask. A current national commercial sings the praises of multitasking. However, multitasking, as most people understand it, is deceptively counter-productive. Multitasking is tremendously costly. Multitasking hurts us every time we attempt to engage in it.

BOOK REVIEW: Why Pride Matters More Than Money: The Power of the World’s Greatest Motivational Force (By Jon R. Katzenbach, Crown Business, 2003, ISBN #0-609--61065-1)
The book's thesis, in a nutshell: an intrinsic feeling of pride based on the relentless pursuit of worthwhile endeavors is a lasting and powerful motivating force. Pride is a good thing!
Pride is a good thing! Pride seems have a bad press doesn’t it? “Pride- the never failing vice of fools” Alexander Pope “Pride goeth before destruction and an haughty spirit before a fall” Proverbs Although it is known as a Vice, it can be a virtue especially in business. Metropolitics: Why Local Government is the Solution to Preserve American Democracy (and Society)
It's quite unfortunate that American national elections are perceived as a Partisan Death Match through which 51% of the nation gets to impose its personal beliefs on the hapless 49% minority. America's Culture War (Kulturkampf for you Germans out there) is still raging, and is increasingly being fought over national social policy.

Facing the Facts about Face in China
In China, the concept "face" influences all levels of society and business. It is similar to the western concept of pride yet different. As a westerner I feel pride once I accomplish something I've been working on, often whether others know of my accomplishment or not. Of course if others acknowledge my achievement, it serves to elevate my feeling of personal satisfaction. On the other hand, "face" is definitely a "public opinion" oriented concept, one that depends upon the respect and acknowledgement of another or others. So it's not so much "what I know about me" as much as it is "what others believe about me."

ALWAYS BE A FIRST VERSION OF YOUR SELF.
"If you don't brand yourself, other people will. And I can guarantee you that they won't brand you in the way that you want to be branded."What we are not at all have complete value. I mean weather I am a CEO of the MNC or I do laundry wash of the clothes in a small shop. It has a lesser value. We have to lead our selves with pride even if we do not have any title. We have to live in a day and building our tomorrow on our today with pride is the essence of BRAND YOUR SELF. We have to do our best to prove our worth to the world, everyday. The ever worst situation we have to face or we are at the top of the world. Never stop branding your self. There is just one life for each of us: our own.

Eliciting excellence in others is the essence of leadership, and one of the most effective means of eliciting excellence is to instill a sense of pride in those around us. Instilling pride has a myriad of benefits - quality of work and workmanship improves, creativity and innovation increases, collaboration is facilitated more easily, and people are willing to "go the extra mile" to do their best.

If you REALLY want it, I’ll drop my price!
I went to the National. I collect sports memorabilia and the National is the place where everyone who is a serious collector or dealer goes. People fly in from all over the world to buy and sell every kind of sports collectible imaginable. And fifty sports celebrities are there signing autographs (for a fee).
