The Sky Is Falling?
With all of the natural disasters that are occurring in the world it could be easy to say, "The sky is falling," like Chicken Little did. Even though things might appear bleak at the time, make the most of the situation and see how you can make it work to your advantage.

Leadership Tip - Moving Beyond Fear Into Your Leadership Role
Media is bombarding the airwaves with tragic news regarding one financial collapse after another. Fear is being felt throughout the world as a result of fallen financial markets. Reacting to life on the terms of FEAR is giving one’s power away. Remember FEAR is “false evidence appearing real.” There are facts and then there are actions you take from what your heart knows is true. Your heart speaks the truth.

Dealing with adversity
Adversity! It sucks. Yet most of us experience it from time to time. Trying to run away from it doesn’t help – ultimately the hole only gets bigger until there is no way out. But by facing it and following some simple steps I’ve found that it can be dealt with. Hopefully the things that have worked for me may be of assistance to you, too.

Changing Minds: Just how hard is it?
In my study of leadership I found that one of the key attributes of great leaders is their ability to influence, the ability to change minds. Changing people's behavior is the most important challenge for business leaders competing in unpredictable environments.

Doing Whatever It Takes For Success
Many times when a person has not achieved a desired goal, it is simply because they were not clear on their outcome or were not willing to do whatever it took to achieve it. When you have a blueprint for success, it becomes much easier to realize your end result. The following article gives you an outline of the necessary steps for achieving your goals.

EVSE target groups: Learning to change
Poverty is the inability to maintain a minimal standard of living. It consists of two elements. The first is the expenditure necessary to buy a minimal standard of nutrition while the second element varies from country to country and reflects specific national normative concepts of welfare. As societies become wealthier, perceptions of the acceptable minimum level of consumption also change. Consequently, poverty is a context-specific concept and, as such, is very much a moving target (See DANIDA,1996).

MFI’s: A Critical Partner in Disaster Mitigation and Relief
Natural disasters are indiscriminate in their impact, but for poor communities – many of which are home to microfinance clients – the effects can be devastating.

Fonkoze - Educating Individuals to Become Self Sustaining
Fonkoze, Haiti’s largest microfinance institution, is another good example of integrating microfinance with other services such as medical treatment, remittances, empowerment, insurance against risk and natural disasters, health insurance, and in particular, education to help improve clients’ situations and contribute to the overall economy.

Enhancing Microfinance Efficacy through Integrated Services
Most microfinance organizations serve what we define as the extreme and the moderate poor.

Improving Microfinance as an Anti-Poverty Tool
As Father Joseph Philippe, the co-founder of the Haitian MFI Fonkoze, states: “You can’t just give a woman a loan and then send her on her way - you have to accompany her as she struggles to make her way out of poverty.”

Inhibitors to Success: Natural Disasters
Like ill health, natural disasters are another area of vulnerability for the poor.

Inhibitors to Success
At its core, microfinance is not terribly different from mainstream consumer finance. From accessing funding to managing the disbursement and collection of funds, microfinance operates like any consumer finance business. But because microfinance serves a very different client segment – the world’s poor – we cannot ignore the different set of challenges these clients face and the implications these challenges have on the organizations serving them.

3.10 Conclusions: Organizing to overcome poverty: Working Out of Poverty
The ILO portfolio of policy advice includes a range of interventions that act directly on the quantity and quality of jobs for the poor and the main expressions of social exclusion. The organizational base provided by trade unions and employers’ organizations is frequently at the core of action to bring together a variety of social institutions with government and public agencies in a common endeavour for sustainable community development.

What is Work/Life Balance, Anyway?
Work/Life Balance is heard often in the media with magazines, talk-shows and self-help professionals offering solutions on ‘how to get it’. This is a great disservice as it assumes that Work/Life Balance is an end state – something that you accomplish and then reap the benefits. Work/Life is a journey, not a destination. This article outlines four actions you can take to move you forward on your journey.

There are irresistible natural and man-made calamities in the world. They cause huge losses. Fortunately, we have insurance, and it can make up for the loss to some degree. Disaster Continuity Planning
According to a report by SCORE on the impact of disasters on U.S. small businesses, natural and manmade disasters have increased by 40% over the last 15 years. The likelihood that you'll experience one is too high to ignore. About 25% of businesses do not reopen following a major disaster. You need to plan ahead to make sure you can weather the storm (pun intended) and continue to be profitable.

Rainbows are wonderful, but if you try to bring that natural beauty into your logo with tons of color, you'll be setting yourself up for unnatural disasters.

How Disasters Can Teach Lessons of Gratitude
In the world today, we encounter a lot of negativity, pain, stress and natural disasters. Many days, we wake up with far too much to do, far too much to think about, far too many concerns, and far too many problems. In Virginia where I live, in the span of less than one week, we experienced a "terrible triad:" an earthquake, a tornado and Hurricane Irene; three major natural disasters capable of causing devastation, tragedies, and causalities. So many of us went through life's inconveniences facing another triad of problems: no lights, no air-conditioning, no television. Having witnessed three natural disasters in one week has made me readily come to believe that it is a good idea to start each day with inspiration and gratitude to help us make it through the day with positive thoughts. This helps to remain focused on your goals.
