August Zen? Living in the Moment
This time of year, many of us are either awaiting a vacation, just back from one, or can’t remember when we last took one. It’s easy to feel conflicted. You can almost hear the voices in people’s heads: Why am I here? I should be enjoying the last rays of sun! How can I enjoy my vacation when my desk looks like this? Why can’t we be like the Europeans and take the summer off? Are you feeling that inner conflict? My challenge to you is to begin to notice what it’s like to live in the moment. Read on...

How Your Thinking Can Hurt Your Small Business and Your Life
At one time I thought that how I spent my time was the essential ingredient in determining how well I succeeded. That's so true but I now also realize that how I think determines how I spend my time, so I go a bit deeper.

Content Battles…Galadriel Holds Middle Earth
Content is becoming available at all levels. But all levels aren't created equal. Today we have Upper Earth...Middle Earth...Lower Earth -- (pro, home, teen/tween. Or put another way... “So I imagine this is just a …ceremonial possession? I mean they don’t actually expect me to do any fighting…Do they?” – Pippin, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

Finding SelfWorth
Dear Jane, I know I'm self-critical. But how do I stop? My self-esteem is at about a zero and the lower it's gone, the worse it seems others treat me. In my self-help book, Enough Is Enough!, I talk about what it’s like to hang out in Courtroom Earth vs. the Classroom Earth. In Courtroom Earth, we act as our own judge, jury, and executioner. Most of the time, we don’t even realize we’re doing this to ourselves. What about you? Do you beat yourself up for everything? Do you compare yourself to other people? Do you find yourself being driven, addicted to more and more evidence to prove that you are worthy? Then do you end up tired, resentful, frustrated, short tempered, with an even greater urge to control and do?

Al Gores’ Approach to Work-Life Balance
In Al Gore’s documentary on global warming (An Inconvenient Truth), he makes reference to a picture used by the Bush administration to illustrate the conflict between money and environment. In the picture, there is a scale: on one side of the scale, there is a pile of gold bars, on the other the earth. As Al Gore somewhat wryly pointed out…gold is not much use to you if you have no earth. I must say the same thought strikes me when I read about “work-life balance.”

Courtroom Earth vs. Classroom Earth
When I am coaching my professional clients, in some fashion, I am likely to be asking them, “What risks are you avoiding taking that might very well make you happier?” Together, we examine whatever fears, self-judgments, or limiting beliefs are holding them back, keeping them in Courtroom Earth instead of letting them enjoy hanging out in Classroom Earth.

What if I already had a plan?
Discovering what our life's purpose is is a popular concept these days. Could this be because more and more people are awakening to the reason they are here, on Earth, the purpose that is suppose to give our life meaning? Some even say it is destiny, a pre-determined purpose set up to dictate our life's existance. Well what if, rather than it being destiny or a pre-determined purpose created by someone else, it actually is a plan that I, myself, created for my life before I made the journey here. That would mean that I am the one creating my own destiny, my own life's purpose. And my biggest challenge here, on Earth, is to simply remember or re-connect with the plan that I already created for myself. How awesome is that!!!!!

Earth Day and Social Media
Thanks to the revolutionary power of social media, Earth Day has grown from 20 million participants in 1970 to one billion participants in 2010. Four decades later, Senators are about to introduce their version of the climate change bill that passed in the House last year. Earth Day is an opportunity to send a clear message to lawmakers demanding that they pass climate change legislation. The Commericialization of Earth Day

The profit motive is a hugely influential incentive that is enticing companies to engage in more sustainable practices.
