Lesson #2: Play By Your Own Rules
| |
| “For better or for worse, our company is a reflection of my thinking, my character, my values,” says Murdoch. When it came to listening to others, Murdoch wasn’t very good at that. He knew the rules of the industry inside and out, but following them was another story. So long as something was legal to do, Murdoch wasn’t above doing it. |

Lesson #5: Build a Strong Team
| |
| Reflecting upon his success, Murdoch commented, “I feel proud but it’s been a long and bumpy ride.” It was not a ride that Murdoch took alone. Free Stuff -- Someone Pays Even for the Free Lunch
| |
| There is a whole group of people who grew up on the Internet that believes everything
that is out there should be free. Stewart Brand set the stage back in 1984 at
the first Hacker's Conference when he said -- Information Wants To Be Free. Information
also wants to be expensive. ... That tension will not go away.
The person who stole the pre-release of Wolverine thought it was neat that he
(or she) could give it away free. Millions viewed it -- free. Millions more refused
knowing that if they really wanted to see it they should pay someone for it.
At the end of the day an organization has to put money in the cash register so
bills will be paid and people will have food/shelter. There is no such thing
as a free lunch |

Staying Current and Adjusting in the Retail Business
| |
| In the not too long ago past there were three main sources of live news; TV, newspaper and the radio. This older format allowed people to either look at or not look at what was being presented by the media.
Nowadays, there are countless sources of live news, thanks to the Internet. So, with so many sources of news, I select only the subject matter I am interested in and sources that I find to be accurate; hence "selectively".
It is obvious that we are in an economic crisis, which is old news. But it wasn't old news back in September or October of 2008. I knew that the economy was being steered into a storm, like nothing I had ever seen before. |
