Tearing Down Walls: How Walton Rose To The Top
| |
| Sam Walton passed away in 1992 but his legacy lives on. It is estimated that if the Wal-Mart chain was its own economy, it would rank 30th in the world, behind Saudi Arabia. The company’s revenues continue to grow at roughly 10% a year, likely surpassing half a trillion dollars in sales within the next decade. The international division of Wal-Mart is also its fastest-growing division, which indicates that the company is continuing to increase its presence around the world. If Sam Walton were alive today, he would be the richest person in the world, with twice the fortune of Bill Gates. How did a farm boy from Oklahoma accomplish all of this? |

Staying Current and Adjusting in the Retail Business
| |
| In the not too long ago past there were three main sources of live news; TV, newspaper and the radio. This older format allowed people to either look at or not look at what was being presented by the media.
Nowadays, there are countless sources of live news, thanks to the Internet. So, with so many sources of news, I select only the subject matter I am interested in and sources that I find to be accurate; hence "selectively".
It is obvious that we are in an economic crisis, which is old news. But it wasn't old news back in September or October of 2008. I knew that the economy was being steered into a storm, like nothing I had ever seen before. |

CONNECTING IS NOT ENOUGH: The Networking Journey……How networking has changed and where it is heading
| |
| May saw me celebrate a ten-year anniversary. On 11th May 1999 I started work for Business Referral Exchange, then a new networking organisation founded six months previously and with just four groups running in London, Hertfordshire and Essex. At the time networking as a formal activity was little known in the UK, with a few independent groups supplementing the networking offered by Chambers of Commerce and community groups such as Rotary.
How times have changed! Networking is now a key activity for millions of small business owners across the World and, with the rise of social online networks, is being recognised as a key skill for everyone, from jobseekers to global corporates.

Guide Yourself With Strong Resolutions
| |
| Here we are again at the time of the year when we've spent time reviewing the previous year, and in this case ... decade. It's now time to chart out what you'll focus on for the coming year.
Have you taken the time to create your New Year's resolutions?
Are you one of those people who just don't believe in making resolutions?
Or ...
Are you the person who won't tell anyone because you're pretty sure you won't follow them anyhow and don't want to embarrass yourself.
This year I took special care in setting my resolutions. I used the fact that we transitioning from one decade to another as a reason to spend more time and effort reflecting and planning for the coming year.
I have to admit I've typically come up with resolutions like the following ....
"I will lose 20 pounds."
or
"I won't eat fast food." |

Mobile Home Parks: The Perfect Storm is Building for the Best Deals in Decades
| |
| Mobile home park sales have been in a continual decline since 2000. From a peak of almost 400,000 units sold per year then, sales are down to under 100,000 today. And most of those sales are units that do not end up in parks. The good news is that, unlike the single family home industry, bad new home sales have been in every park owner's and bank's budgets for almost a decade. There is no collapse to worry about -- it's already been dead for a decade. And no sellers are trying to use numbers based on good sales that are not really there anymore, nor do you have to guess when the rebound will occur. |
