The Ethics of Service
| |
| Service works when it enriches the exchanges. Customers feel valued when the experience a service provider delivers something special to the encounter. But generous must be coupled with conscientiousness or it turns contentment into caution. And, a generous heart without an enthusiastic spirit risks leaving customers believing they have received a gesture without importance and a gift without worth.

Buyers Tricks
| |
| Buyers are really nice people. That is a broad statement but I truely believe that buyers are nice people after work, but during office hours they can be... well... difficult. Sometimes they will trick you into getting a better deal, watch out for these tricks. If you are a buyer, do not read this article. :-) |

Is everyone else getting wealthy off your efforts except you?

| Are you the proverbial nice guy who refuses payment even though you went miles out of your way to help out? Have people told you, you are too nice for your own good?
Think about the last time you knew you should be charging more, but instead, sold yourself for less. What were the consequences? |

Lessons from The Wizard of Oz
| |
| Dear Jane,
I just bought a nice new car, which I’d been saving up for. I felt excited when I got into it, smelled that new-car smell, and heard the engine purr. That was a week ago. Now, even though I’m still proud of myself for attaining this goal, I don’t feel jazzed about the car itself anymore. Why is the thrill gone so quickly? How come I don’t stay happy for very long?
Given the amount of debt we Americans are currently up to our ears in, you’d think that money must buy happiness. But just a few years ago, a landmark Harvard study demonstrated that, although many people believe that a nice piece of jewelry, a larger home, a new car, or more money will make them happy, this satisfaction doesn’t last long.
The researchers found that what makes us happiest for the greatest duration is something money can’t buy: |

Holiday networking
| |
| Holiday networking is more laid back, less aggressive and more casual. You’re there having a nice time with other people who are also there to have a nice time… and if they happen to learn about a company relevant to them in the guise of friendly word-of-mouth conversation, all the better. The aim is much closer to friendly conversation than high-intensity deal closing. |

Be Kind and Listen
| |
| It has been said that it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice. Another “oldie” is the fact that when you’re talking you’re not learning; it’s only when you listen that you learn. |

Why a Sales Manager MUST Evoke "The Law of Reciprocity"
| |
| For our purposes, the Law of Reciprocity states: If you do something nice for someone, human nature dictates that the recipient will feel compelled to do something nice for you in return.
It is in essence: "you reap what you sow". This is an irrefutable law and one that you should teach your salespeople. The question of will someone actually act upon it at a given time depends on who asks.

Why Do You Want to Work From Home, Anyway? (be sure to stay balanced)
| |
| Ask any one person what they want from life. Most will give the same answer. Most people just want to spend time with the ones they love and enjoy their lives to the fullest degree possible. Having money is nice; having fancy homes and cars and other luxuries is nice; but I think you'll find that most people are more interested in having meaningful loving relationships with family and friends than they are in being rich. I don't think that anyone on their death-bed would ask to be surrounded by all of the "stuff" they've accumulated throughout their life. People wanna be surrounded by friends and family; the ones they love. |

Can Simply Being Nice Save You Money?
| |
| It occurred to me (at the tax office of all places) that simply being nice to others really does save us money. This morning while paying taxes, I was pleasant and took the time to be nice and two ladies really did everything in their power to save me some money. As I then drove to my office, I pondered the application of "simply being nice" to a more general business application. Can we as leaders role model being nice and teach our employees to be the same way? Can being nice impact our bottom line? Do we sometimes neglect the very people that mean success or failure in the game of business? |

Listen and Learn
| |
| Listening isn't just a nice to have soft skill. With organizations and individuals so fervently focused on the bottom line, actively listening has never been as important as it is now.
A focus on listening can lead to more effective teamwork, higher productivity, fewer conflicts and errors, enhanced innovation and problem-solving, improved recruiting and retention, superior customer relations and more. As authors on leadership development have noted through the years, listening is not just a nice thing to do, it’s essential! |
