Where Eagles Dare

As Rahm Emanuel said, “a crisis is a terrible thing to waste”. It forces our brains to think in ways, good times just don’t compel it to do. How do you respond in a crisis? What do swirling clouds of uncertainty and volatile markets spark in your thinking? What does pressure trigger in the way you process what is going on and what your options are? How will you handle the current storm and make the best of what is?

Wearing Your Heart On Your Vest - Manners and Etiquette

Jorge was a young construction worker, sitting near the front of the bus. Natasha was an older lady confined to a wheelchair. She asked him about his orange safety vest, "Where do you get those?" The vests are highly reflective and are easily seen by oncoming automobile traffic. Natasha thought that a similar vest might protect her as she crossed the street from the bus stop to her house in the evening. Jorge stood up, took the vest off, and presented it to Natasha as a gift.

There is a Storm Brewing - A Labor Storm

| How long will this storm last? Have you prepared? Do you have an umbrella? Are you ready to head for the basement when the sirens roar?
Unfortunately, we don't have the technology to literally see the future. So, we must depend on studies and the research of futurists to be our crystal ball. We know a labor storm is brewing but we just don't know how intense it is going to be.

The Art of Being with Fear: Never Be Stopped By Fear Again

You are standing on railroad tracks when you begin to feel the vibration from the train on the metal rails. You consider running home. Then you hear the clatter of the rails from the oncoming train, the train horn, your heart starts to race, your body starts to shake and as you turn to run you are suddenly struck with terror. You begin to sweat and then suddenly you realize the train wasn't going to hit, but just pass you bay. You are still alive, but you have broken through to a whole new level of awareness and reality.

Being Calm in the Eye of the Storm

Your life is going reasonably well. You're focused, "on track" and feeling centered...yet all of a sudden your workload triples, an employee leaves, or a significant person in your life becomes emotionally distraught, or perhaps a death or illness surprises the family. Your outside world doesn't have to equal your inside world. Life is always presenting new challenges to strengthen our spirit, expand our consciousness, and foster growth. Learning how to master accessing the "calm" in any storm is worthy goal, but it is obtainable. What is your current "storm"? I challenge you to find your center in the eye of it all.

Why Tough Times Are The Perfect Time To Move Forward And Thrive!

What do most individuals, companies and even countries do when tough times come? Most take shelter and try to ride the storm out. Fear takes over and decisions are made from a less than useful state of mind. Procrastination, which is a decision, becomes the norm. But not everyone. Some bold souls see great opportunity in the challenging circumstances and take action to move ahead. Soon, they find themselves ahead of the storm. That's when their momentum really picks up...

There's An Economic Storm Coming

| It's time to pay attention to things like the economy, politics, and the way things are going in the world. If you're like me (and I know I am :), these may be things you haven't spent much time or energy on... and, frankly, don't like to think about. But there are major economic storm clouds gathering, and if you educate yourself now about how to deal with the coming storm, you could be one of the few who come out okay - or even way better than okay.

Billboard Construction - What to Do When Your Billboard is Damaged in a Storm

You can't be in the billboard business and not have a storm-related accident at some point, unless you live in an area where the wind never exceeds about 30 mph. Many a time, in the middle of the night, I have headed out to look at my billboard construction after a really bad storm has blown through. I've done this because I know how important it is to get to the sign quickly after there's damage to mitigate the situation. Here's what to do if this should ever happen to you.

Blinded by the Light

We choose so often to see the safety of what we want to see, instead of the scary storm that's approaching us. When the storm hits - we drop to our knees in shock and ask, "What the heck happened? How can this be?"

Choosing Our Poison or Choosing to Let Go

| I am running late for an important appointment and speeding down a two-lane highway. Suddenly I come up behind a garbage truck lumbering along well below the speed limit. The highway is full of oncoming traffic, curves, and hills so I can't pass. If I start to get angry, pound the steering wheel, and really work myself into lather about this, who is in control of my emotions at this point - a garbage truck or me?
