Lesson #3: Take Advantage of New Technologies
“I don’t care about being bigger, because I’m already bigger than I ever expected to be,” Oprah says. “My constant focus is on being better. Should I be doing multimedia video production? Or seminars on the Internet? How can I do what I’m already doing in a more forceful way?” Oprah’s ability to consistently take advantage of new media and technology is one of the distinguishing features of her massive success. Harpo Studios, Oprah’s brainchild, has successfully grown from a one-show production to a multi-billion dollar media powerhouse thanks to its expansion into different media.

Building an Empire: Oprah’s Formative Years
Oprah’s ambition did not diminish with the success of The Oprah Winfrey Show. After her successful acting debut in The Colour Purple (1985), Oprah’s desire to expand into the film and television industry was further fueled. In 1988, Oprah became the third woman in the American entertainment industry to own her own studio when she created Harpo Studios. Oprah’s name read backwards, Harpo is a television and film production, magazine publishing and online media company in one. “I did this to really expand into the areas I wanted to and take over the show to create more time for me to do features and TV specials,” she said.

Lesson #4: Be a Good Corporate Citizen
“What I know for sure is that what you give comes back to you,” says Oprah. Proof that philanthropy does not have to be at odds with having a good business sense, Oprah has managed to keep her sense of humility and compassion while still registering ever-increasing profits. Considered one of the most admired entrepreneurs in the world, Oprah has made a living not only amassing a sizeable fortune, but also giving it back.

Do you have a book that would be just perfect for Oprah’s Book Club and you want to tell her about it? Do you dream of sitting on that comfy chair next to the daytime queen and discussing all your problems with her? Or do you have a great story idea that you want to pitch to the show’s producers? If you do, you’re not alone. From authors who see an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show as their ticket to success to politicians who are trying to get the vote of her millions of viewers, the chance to contact Oprah Winfrey is becoming both fiercely competitive and prized.

Are You Rude on The Internet? It Can Hurt Your Business.
I don’t know about you but I’ve noticed a disturbing trend occurring both on the Internet and in real life. The trend is rudeness. I watched a taping of Oprah tonight (see the CNN breakdown of this show here) that enlightened me to a book, a doctor and a quote that made the light bulbs go off. Dr. PM Forni wrote a book called, “Choosing Civility: The Twenty-Five Rules of Considerate Conduct” and although I have not read it yet, you bet it will be in my next book store purchase.

Are you giving everything you've got and then some to be a caregiver for an aging loved one and still feeling guilty that you're not doing more? If so, welcome to the club!! Not a club you want to be a member of? Then here are some suggestions that will help you out.

Facts About Oprah Winfrey
Here are a few facts about Oprah Winfrey that a lot of people do not know. The pontiff of daytime TV, publishing and media in general is an open book more or less. She leads by example and her life story is a testament to determination and overcoming the odds. Oprah was born girl on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi and was named Orpah Gail Winfrey. Her name was mispronounced as “Oprah” so many times and misspelled as such that eventually it stuck. The name "Orpah" remained on her birth certificate, but she eventually became known as "Oprah”.

Oprah Winfrey Contacts
Here is the usefulness of knowing your Oprah Winfrey contacts. Getting in touch with Oprah in the flesh, through email and on the phone is probably harder than getting in touch with Barak Obama. Actually, there is no “probably” about it. Jason and the Argonauts had a shorter, let perilous journey to reach the golden fleece, that the average person does of getting to just meet Oprah. However, it is not impossible and she does make herself somewhat available through the proper channels. You just have to know what channel to tune to.

Left Brain or Right?
I was listening to a 4 part interview between Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor and Oprah from the Oprah Spirit channel.
