Why the Titanic Sank: Sweat the Small Stuff
Most of us don't realize how the small stuff can get in the way. This article desicribes how one minor oversight caused the deaths of hundreds and sank the largest vessel of its time. It wasn't the expensive hardware, it was something we can buy on Amazon.com.

WHERE IS THE YOU (“U”) IN ACCOUNTABILITY IN TODAY’S WORLD?
Do you know where the you (“U”) is in accountability in your company or organization? Does your organization struggle with accountability as an issue in the workplace today? Is there a culture at your company that holds everyone accountable? What is accountability? A straightforward definition could be: being responsible for one’s activities, conduct and performance of responsibilities. Based upon my life experiences and my business coaching and consulting work, I can tell you that accountability, and the lack thereof, is one of the major issues in business (and life) today.

The Changing World of Work
Do you find that your organization is constantly changing, that you are not sure what organization you are working for let alone your job description? Has your job changed as a result of downsizing, out sizing and rightsizing and that it leaves you with more to do and less time? Do you find that you struggle to put your life in balance and that work is an overwhelming amount of time in your life? Do you question, “Am I in the right job?” If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, you are not alone. The world of work is changing and becoming more demanding. You need to change with it. But how?

Redefinition of Leadership
Ever wonder what strategies work to have successful leadership within an organization? As times continue to change, so do the tried and true standards. Business standards are evolving to keep up with the influx of the new standards of life in the 21st century. This article will help your organization stay ahead of the learning curve and not be left behind.

Lesson #5: “It's who you are as an organization that makes everything possible.”
If it is who you are as an organization that makes everything possible, then it is who you are as a leader that makes the organization what it is. Wrigley Jr.’s organization was a strong one because he was an even stronger leader. It was several of his key personal characteristics that made the organization reach the heights it did under his leadership.

Operating Without A Human Resources Department
Great Human Resource professionals add value to any organization. Recruiting and retaining star performers, building a productive workforce, coaching managers to perform at higher levels, ensuring that the organization stays compliant, and raising the bar on performance are what HR brings to the table. HR can be the difference between success and failure in an organization. But what can an organization do if they don't have an HR professional on staff? This is the predicament faced by many companies.

Bad Leadership
Honestly, looking back over my life, I have had periods of time where I followed bad leadership. I complained inwardly; I may have even voiced my opposition to others, but I continued to follow and for the most part did nothing to change the situation until I left the organization. In the meantime, not only did the organization suffer, but it wasted my time and energy and ultimately kept me from pursuing my own dreams and goals or from realizing my own potential as a leader.

Don't Quit Planning During Uncertain Times
The wise person will always plan for change and through change. The leader’s role needs to be one of keeping the organization true to the overall mission and vision of the organization while at the same time always being aware of changes on the horizon which could enhance or threaten the organization’s success in the future and, in the end, steering the organization through those changes. Plans today must be much more adaptable and flexible to change and more inclusive of others and their opinions if they will succeed; but plans must be made that serve to move the organization forward.

3 Basic Needs of a Healthy Organization
Someone shared an article with me by Raymond P. Rood entitled “How Then Should Organizations Live”. In the article Rood makes the point that every organization has three basic needs. They are growth, maintenance, and development. For an organization to thrive it must do all three well. Yesterday at our all day staff retreat we expanded our thoughts on these three needs as they relate to the life of our church and each individual area in which we serve.

Who Cares about Work-Life Balance?
Whether you manage one person, or lead an organization with thousands of employees, supporting your staff to create a better work-life balance makes sense and cents. When people you work with feel you respect their work-life balance and allow them some autonomy in their choices, they will feel more valued, more engaged, and more committed to the organization. You can make a difference in your employees work-life balance by giving them support and tools to make choices that fit with each person’s individual work-life preferences. Keeping your staff satisfied keeps them working well and working for you.

Personal Mastery And Organizational Performance
Personal mastery is not something you can accomplish overnight. It is not just going beyond what you can do with your skills and talents. Personal mastery is how you understand and direct your life. For an organization to succeed, each person member of the organization has to be part of the organization purpose and make it their own personal purpose.
