Dressed For Success: How Emporio Armani Became an Empire

Lack of Focus

| As the stock market continues to flounder around (mostly the wrong direction) and some people in the middle east continue to try to destroy each other, I woke up this morning pondering failure. Appreciation: Looking in the Rearview Mirror

Appreciation is more than taking a positive attitude about business and about life: it's also about looking back on how far you've come and enjoying the accomplishment. No matter how much attention you need to pay to the road ahead, you still sometimes have to look in the rearview mirror to appreciate where you've come from. What successful team avoids performing a 'postmortem' on even a well-played game? Perfection is a direction, not an achievable goal; progress is what we're after. Future progress only comes from a healthy examination of where we've been.

Lesson #5: Do What You Do Better than Anyone Else

“It’s important to remember one thing that is essential for any entrepreneurial organization,” says Moore. “Do what you do well. Look at other things as incremental opportunities, but don’t change the basis of what you do well.” Moore and Noyce might have had many failed products over the years at Intel – arguably more than most successful companies – but they never strayed from their original idea as to what they wanted their company to be about. Indeed, it was by focusing on a single vision and doing that well that they increased their circle of influence and climbed to the top of the industry.

Realizing Your Entrepreneurial Vision

| Question: Can you become a successful entrepreneur?
Answer: Yes, but you can’t do it alone.
Entrepreneurs begin by creating a vision. The vision states what your company does, why it is in business and what it will achieve. From this vision, a company strategy emerges. It describes the actions the company will take to make the vision a reality. Your company’s future pain and success is a function of 1) whether your vision serves the needs of the marketplace and 2) how successfully your company implements its strategy.

Original Footage Vs. Digital Video Copies

As a video forensic expert, I want to examine original video when it is submitted as evidence in litigation. When anyone makes a copy, they have the discretion to copy only the video they feel is relevant instead of all the video recorded regarding the events that actually took place. It is crucial to preserve the original footage’s multiple views of the incident in case of necessary forensic examination. If I can prove scientifically that the original footage-needed to view the facts as they originally occurred-has been intentionally deleted, then I have served a purpose in that litigation.
