Avoid that Christmas Financial Hangover
| |
| Yes, folks it’s that time of year again in which we will be expected to spend 20 million euros an hour on Christmas Eve in Ireland along Yep, that’s right, AN HOUR. Of course a substantial chunk of that will be on credit and many of us will be dreading our January credit card bills: I spent HOW MUCH. Ouch. So how can we enjoy Christmas without giving ourselves the January hangover? Here are some tips to ensure that January is not the cruelest credit card month for you. |

More Roundtable Musings: The IPO Problem
| |
| At one point during the VCJ roundtable there is some spot-on musing about the effect of the absent IPO market for venture-backed companies. As a panelist pointed out, the last five years have shown why the venture market is not scalable: The amount of money being put into venture-backed companies has soared, while the IPO market remains flat (or down, depending on where you put your start point). At double the current IPO rate it will take 50 years to get the exits LPs are implicitly expecting. Ouch. |

Stress-Free Selling® - How to Talk About Competition
| |
| Before I answer this, let’s look at the alternative…
If you approach this by talking about what your competitors are or are not, you are spending time talking about your competitors! Now you've got your customers and prospects thinking about them and not you. Ouch. You want them focused on you not your competitors!

Are You Making the Most of the 80/20 Rule?
| |
| 80/20 Principle: 20% of everything you do results in 80% of your outcomes. Ouch!
That's a tricky concept, isn't it? Yet, understanding what it means to your business - and your life - is essential to earning what you're worth, and doing so in less time. If only you could understand what that 20% is, and what the heck you're doing with your time. The trick is knowing, without question, what your customers pay you for, and matching that up with engaging your best talents in your work. When you find the intersection it's magic. |

It’s been a month with no sales! Do I sack my sales manager?
| |
| A sales manager, or more appropriately, 'sales leader' is a key leadership role in any sales driven organisation. That means sacking your sales leader, more often than not, also means bleeding intellectual property (IP) to your key competitors. Moreover, an emotionally charged ex-sales leader may even take some of your sales team and clients with them. Ouch!

Successful People Build Their Brand on Integrity
| |
| Successful people create positive personal impact. Creating and nurturing your unique personal brand should be your first step in creating positive personal impact. Regardless of how you choose to brand yourself, you should build your brand on integrity. This means saying what you think. The video, "Ouch! Your Silence Hurts," suggests that you should become a "pro-active ally" instead of a "silent colluder" or "passive bystander" when you encounter a situation that doesn't fit with your values. This video is a wakeup call. It tells us that we shouldn't let words and actions that conflict with our values go unchallenged. |

Manufacturing Excellence - Inspire, Lead, and Succeed with PATIENCE!
| |
| Ouch. I have to admit that patience is probably not one of my better virtues. I also tend to expect that everyone will make decisions at the same speed as I do. As I get older though, I more and more can see the value of being patient with my environment and the people around me.
Every person is unique. Every person has his or her own challenges. Every person has a different risk treshold, and every person makes decisions at his or her own speed. If we would be more considerate and patient, we would have better relationships.
I want to master everything immediately and I want to be able to do it right away. However, it does not always work that way, and neither should it. Sometimes we get further ahead by practising a little patience rather than paying a high price for making a hasty decision or not allowing sufficient lead-time.
