Lesson #1: Plan for the Long Run If You Want to Run Long

Hunting was nothing new, and neither was hiking. Both had been around for as long as man and Bean knew it. His business had sprung up from a need that was not being met – getting wet feet in the great outdoors. It was a need that had not been met for centuries past, and one that would need to keep being met for years ahead. Bean knew that if he played his cards right, his company could be at the forefront of meeting that need for the foreseeable future, and beyond. Indeed, it was Bean’s long term vision and planning that explains the company’s continued success.

Guerrilla Marketing Memes

| The prehistoric man, Uba, spent all day in the rain trying to catch a fish because his family was very hungry and in dire need of food. But he was unable to grab a fish from the stream even though he occasionally got his hands on one. Frustrated and weak from hunger, he just couldn't grab any fish firmly enough because it would slither from his hands and return to the stream. Worse yet, the light rain turned to a heavy rain and Uba was forced to seek shelter in a nearby cave.

What Makes Certain Art Popular?

You know the art that has remained popular throughout the ages. Why? You know the artists who have remained famous through the ages. Imagine, for example, The Mona Lisa. Most people are familiar with the painting, yet not so many can tell you that an artist named Leonardo painted it. Most people can recognize a Picasso painting, but not so many can tell you the names of them.

The Global Significance of Art

As an artist, I believe that art lives. There is the spirit of the artist in each original piece of art. Of this I am sure. Does the spirit move also into each reproduction? This I am not so sure of. What I do know is that a piece of art can stop one cold in his or her tracks or a group of people cold in their tracks. You can see this yourself whenever you go to a major museum where they have the masters in their collections. And, of course, contemporary artists can also stop people in their tracks. Art is powerful. I love being an artist. I love that what Kant said about come comparing artists to God. Of course, it all comes from God. Where art is concerned, globally, it is a small world indeed.

Best Book on Painting Tips for Artists I Ever Read

| TITLE: BEST BOOK ON PAINTING TIPS FROM CHARLES WEBSTER HAWTHORNE (1872-1930)
As An artist and a writer, I study all the time the masters in those fields, those who struggled and won. Why? Because I am still struggling and need their tools to win.
I recently read Charles Webster Hawthorne on Painting, collected by Mrs. Charles. W. Hawthorne with an Introduction by Edwin Dickinson, an Appreciation by Hans Hoffman, and Biographical Notes by Joseph Hawthorne, his son.
These forty tools I gleaned from Hawthorne’s tips to help his students create more masterful paintings. In working to understand these forty tools, I felt like one of his students. I wish the same for you.

The Many Faces of Love

Like leadership, love has many faces and forms. Both are states of being that defy easy definitions or how-to formulas. Pianist, Arthur Rubinstein, describes one face of love, "I'm passionately involved in life: I love its change, its color, its movement. To be alive, to be able to see, to walk, to have houses, music, paintings - it's all a miracle." Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia outlines another face of love when talking about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.
