You Have No Frame of Reference Here, Donny
| |
| I pity taxpayers wandering into the credit crisis story at this point. It is absurdly complex, and centers on a subject that most people neither care about nor understand. And the last time they looked in they were told this was about subprime and housing, which it no longer is -- at least not in large part. |

Growing Your Business in a Difficult Economy
| |
| Admiral James Stockdale was the highest ranking American POW during the Vietnam War. He was held for more than 8 years and after his release wrote a book Love and War that described how he was able to not just survive the ordeal but actually thrive when many others didn’t. The story of his absolute confidence that he would survive coupled with his ability to confront the brutal facts of his current reality came to be known as the “Stockdale Paradox”.
Many years later Jim Collins wrote his business masterpiece Good to Great and demonstrated how many companies used the “Stockdale Paradox” to survive and thrive in tough times while many of their competitors fell by the wayside or disappeared completely.

The Land Of Purposeful Paradoxes - The Birthplace Of Your Divinely Inspired Life Purpose
| |
| Paradox is defined as something that appears to contradict itself, two statements that say opposite things and yet are both true. Something that seems to contradict itself and when heard together form a Truth. If there is such a thing as Truth in the cosmos, one of the most interesting places to find truth is in a paradox because like we said in our definition of a paradox, a paradox contains multiple truths. We as humans tend to want to see things as either/or, black or white. We are often uncomfortable with two things being true. We tend to want things one-way or the other. Do you have a FAVORITE paradox? Here are a few examples: "The more you learn, the less you know." Or "The more things change, the more they stay the same".... Or one of my personal favorites from Charles Dickens: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". |

Entrepreneurs as Coaches
| |
| I was at a client's company last week and heard a brief hallway conversation as I was waiting for my lunch appointment. The gist of what was said sounded like two people in a war torn country.
"I bought lots of canned goods that were on sale just in case I lose my job" said person one. The response was "Yeah, I know what you mean; I just went to the thrift store to get my kids spring clothes because I am afraid to spend too much money." This went back and forth until they were out of earshot. |
