Being Nice
| |
| I'm seated in the Tampa airport on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 2005. A gentleman recognized me and approached me saying, "Greater love hath no man for his wife than to always open her car door." That's something of a takeoff on what I've been talking about for many years, that it's the little things husbands and wives do for each other on a regular basis, not the big things once or twice a year, that breed long-term, successful marriages and lots of honeymoons instead of just anniversaries. |

Presidential List
| |
| I read an article recently that made a lot of sense to me. Doris Kearns Goodwin is a Pulitzer Prize winner for her books on history, and she made a list of ten points that are important for a President to consider and to emulate if they hoped to be great. She has written books about Abraham Lincoln and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and she believes leadership strengths should be considered carefully before voting. Here are some of the attributes that she feels make for a great leader--and I agree! |

A Recipe for Success

| "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -Mark Twain |

Much Ado About a Lot
| |
| This is all about the very people who hold your future in their hands -- your key, target audiences -- and how they may harbor negative perceptions likely to hurt you by inevitably turning into hurtful behaviors you won't like one little bit. |

Lack of Seriousness - The Last Interview with Vonnegut
| |
| Kurt Vonnegut is one of my few idols, an elegantly simple poet-philosopher of the first class. I grew up near where he lived in Sag Harbor, and I’ve enjoyed his writing since I was in junior high, where I silently hoped to one day have the courage to visit him. |

"What the world really needs is more love and less paperwork."
| |
| True words, Pearl Bailey, but when it comes to trademarks, paperwork is the fuel that keeps the trademark machine running.
I'll devote a few posts to the different types of filings the USPTO requires. That being said, let's start at the beginning. |

Government Takeover: "Bush Tax Cuts" Are Now OK
| |
| Today's Pearl Harbor Day, but too few in the U.S. are focused on commemorating America's survival of one of the most heinous attacks ever to take place on its soil. Instead, too many people are distracted today by the bomb dropped by the liberal government late yesterday. They've struck a corrupt bargain to extend the current income tax rates only by accompanying that measure with a massive extension of unemployment benefits.

The Sleeping Giant
| |
| Recently during a speaking engagement in Hawaii, I had the privilege of touring Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. It is a moving experience that I would recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to take advantage of it. From time to time, it is good to be reminded that freedom comes at a very high price.
