Lesson #2: Know Yourself
| |
| In order to succeed, you need to know what you are good at. A talent, according to Lucas is “a combination of something you love a great deal, something you can lose yourself in – something that you can start at 9 in the morning, look up from your work and it’s 10 o’clock at night – and something that you have a natural ability to do very well.” |

What Eastman’s staff new about him was that he swore – a lot. Whenever something went wrong, anyone within earshot could hear Eastman’s infamous blue streak. |

Be Careful What You Wish For

Why can't I ever finish anything? Why do I procrastinate so much?
Most of us think we are simply lazy when we procrastinate. But the truth is that the cause of most procrastination isn’t laziness; it’s fear. We may be afraid that the task at hand is overwhelming or we may be afraid of failing at it. These are the two biggest fears that tend to keep us in approach/avoidance mode.

self-discipline and endurance. No opportunity to earn some money or payment
in kind can be missed. Children and elderly dependants as well as adult
members of the family often have to work in some way or other for a bare
subsistence income. Hunger is ever present. Sickness or an accident means
disaster. Mending the roof, buying clothes, furniture, even exercise books
and pencils for school are major investments. |

Create Your Success
| |
| If you want to succeed you need to do at least four things: 1) Get clear on --your purpose and direction in your life and career; 2) Commit to taking personal responsibility for your life and career; 3) Build unshakeable self confidence; 4) Develop the competencies you need to succeed. Yes, there's a lot to learn, but there is one point I make over and over again with my coaching clients. You need to use what you learn. I listed several success quick points above and hopefully you learned something from them. But, as the U.S. Steel pencils used to say, "Knowing is not enough." You have to use this knowledge if you're going to become a career and life success. Remember, success is a journey, not a destination. |
