Setting the Bar Higher As a Top Sales Manager
| |
| I just love the "corporate sales buzzwords" don't you?
Some of my personal favorites:
"We need to start thinking outside the box"
"Let's take a deeper dive on that..."
"We need to give it 110 percent!"
"Let's create a win-win for the customer"
"It's all about change management"
"Let's take that offline"
"At the end of the day..."
"Let's produce some strong organic growth"
And my personal favorite:
"We need to set the bar high"
I once heard an expression that stuck with me on the use of profanity in speech. I may not have it exactly right, but it goes like something like this:
"The use of profanity is the work of a feeble mind trying desperately to express itself"
I do have to admit, I do swear a bit...but I never (any more) use cliched corporate sales "buzz words" in front of my sales team.

There were so many of them, I could not include them all. I did want to share a sampling of some of YOUR favorite quotations. Some were home grown expressions, others were attributed to famous people in history and one was even found on the back of sugar packet! Enjoy…

Avoiding Playing Favorites
| |
| We all know the issue of playing favorites is one of the most deadly trust busters in an organization. The conundrum is that every leader really does have favorites and uses these people more than the not-so-favored people for certain tasks. If you are a leader and deny this, check your reality meter – you may be out of gas.
Given this problem, how can a leader go about running the most efficient organization and still beat the debilitating stigma of playing favorites? The answer lies in doing 4 things that are outlined in this article.

Favoritism is a Huge Problem
| |
| John Wooden, the late famous basketball coach at UCLA once made the following statement: "Treating everyone the same is the most sure way to show favoritism." I puzzled over this statement for a while because I was taught it was important to treat everyone the same way in order to avoid playing favorites. John was indicating exactly the opposite is true.
I believe his point is that individuals are all different, and each person has unique needs. If a leader treats everyone the same way, then he or she is really not being fair. Would you agree with that interpretation or is there something else I am missing in John's point.
I believe there are seven antidotes to playing favorites in the workplace. They are listed in this article. |

Defining Value from the Customers Perspective
| |
| Some 'best practices' are too important to assume they are understood...and 'practiced.' This article talks about one of my personal favorites. It involves two radio stations and a buggy whip manufacturer. Oh yes, and a website developer that struggled for 6 years before she got the memo on this best practice. The concept is simple, execution tough. Every business must understand why their customer's buy from them, something few bother to do. And consultants are the worst. Stop talking about 'What You Sell/Do' and start explaining 'What's In It For ME (the customer!). |

The Land Of Purposeful Paradoxes - The Birthplace Of Your Divinely Inspired Life Purpose
| |
| Paradox is defined as something that appears to contradict itself, two statements that say opposite things and yet are both true. Something that seems to contradict itself and when heard together form a Truth. If there is such a thing as Truth in the cosmos, one of the most interesting places to find truth is in a paradox because like we said in our definition of a paradox, a paradox contains multiple truths. We as humans tend to want to see things as either/or, black or white. We are often uncomfortable with two things being true. We tend to want things one-way or the other. Do you have a FAVORITE paradox? Here are a few examples: "The more you learn, the less you know." Or "The more things change, the more they stay the same".... Or one of my personal favorites from Charles Dickens: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". |
