Creating an Extraordinary Organization

If everyone would like to work in a thriving, enlivening and nurturing environment, why is it that almost no one loves being at work? Why is it that most of us simply acquiesce when confronted by the drudgery and suffering that, according to seemingly every statistical measure, characterizes life within many companies? Is this condition inevitable? Are we destined to an environment where the most we have to look forward to is Friday afternoon? Not at all. There are specific steps that can be taken to begin to reclaim some of the enthusiasm, some of the air of celebration and some of the fundamental respect for individual human dignity that is apparent within flourishing business organizations or on championship teams.

Support for your Business…Starting at Home

As things have been a bit crazy around our house since starting a home based business, I have been thinking how lucky and blessed that I am to have a husband who is supportive in my business endeavors. I hear time and time again from women that their spouses are not only unsupportive, but in fact they tease, taunt and try to make their wives feel like they are silly to even attempt a business. My heart goes out to these women, and it saddens me to hear stories like this. It is difficult to pursue a dream when the person who is to be your closest friend and supporter acts just the opposite. I sometimes wonder why some spouses act this way, but will never fully understand. I can only assume a variety of reasons: jealousy, fear of change, feelings of neglect.

Make a list of the things that annoy you most at work. I bet they would include things we could all classify as "petty". Many of us often compartmentalize and say they are not bothered. Our past experiences pop up to haunt us in a thousand small ways and rarely are we prepared to see what is super old, and what is from just today. This article has 5 ways to limit the frustration in the workplace.

Leadership: Is there an app for that?

When I accepted my first management position, my new boss told me his secret to managing people was to treat them like whiny children. I asked him if managing people was his thing, and he bluntly said, "No, because I hate dealing with people and their petty issues." Despite his revelation, we had a good relationship because I didn't ask him for leadership advice and he didn't have any to give.

Business, Friendship and Communication and Disputes

| Much can be said about the value of communication in business. But nothing is more important than clear communication when it comes to combining friendships and business relationships.
Over the past several years, I have been privy to disputes that I should never have been made aware of. Petty disagreements, cries of unfair business practices and statements meant to discredit other business people and their practices have been brought to my attention over and over. In every one of these situations, poor communication has been the catalyst to many disagreements and the poor behaviour that follows. |
