Entrepreneurial Objectivity
| |
| For most of us, it's obvious that the bulk of the decisions we make on a daily basis are based upon the summation of our previous experience. Then
combined with some sort of reactive observation. “That looks hot, I once was burned, don’t touch it.” A rather simplistically calculated decision to a situation, correct? There are a lot of philosophical explanations to this phenomenon, (of which I have no desire whatsoever to regurgitate.) However, the idea of understanding, evaluating and augmenting our decision making process, is quite possibly one of the most effective, yet difficult things to do. |

Lesson #2: Always Leave the Doors to Innovation Open
| |
| “I think many people assume, wrongly, that a company exists simply to make money,” said Packard during an HP management training session in 1960. “While this is an important result of a company’s existence, we have to go deeper to find our real reason for being…A group of people get together and exist as an institution that we call a company…to do something worthwhile – they make a contribution to society.” |

Coco Chanel Handbag
| |
| The launch of the first Coco Chanel handbag in 1955 marked the beginning of a fashion revolution. Coco had retired in 1939, and had been written off by most in the industry. Her perfumes could still be bought at Chanel outlets, but she had stopped making any new designs, and had effectively retired from the fashion business. When she made her comeback at the age of 71, and introduced the innovative and hugely popular Coco Chanel handbag, her success was thus all the more remarkable. |

Lesson #4: Tread Carefully Into New Waters
| |
| Today, the popularity of Pokemon throughout the world has led some to dub the phenomenon “Pokemania.” From Japan to the U.S., children are fascinated by anything and everything Pokemon: the cards, the toys, the websites, the candy, and the list goes on. But when Tajiri first thought about expanding his brand, he was not quite sure what to expect. |

Fast Food Fury: How DeLuca Created a Franchising Phenomenon
| |
| “What's happening to us is beyond whatever I imagined,” says DeLuca, looking back on his career. “If you told me 30 years ago that one day I'd be sitting in a Subway store in Russia, I'd have said you were crazy.” DeLuca went from being just another kid in Brooklyn to being at the top of an international fast food phenomenon. How did he do it?

Lesson #5: Reinventing Yourself is Risky but Rewarding
| |
| Some critics contend that there is nothing especially unique about Fuller’s recipe for success. Instead, they say he has simply capitalized on the phenomenon of disposable pop. What they fail to realize however, is that despite all outward appearances, Fuller has time and again reinvented himself. |

How Social is Your Email?

Are you ready for the phenomenon of Social Sales?
| |
| Arguably, social media is contributing to the democratisation of information and, armed with this information, customers will demand different things from sales people and companies. Customers are tuning into online communities, blogs, forums, and social networks to gather information and make buying decisions.
For instance, the retail car market is undergoing significant changes with customers firmly in the driver’s seat. With the emergence of the information age consumers have far more knowledge about what to buy and where to buy it. On the whole, customers are doing their research, checking with their networks and peers groups, reading or viewing the latest comments online, and have potentially even made a buying decision before they step into a store. This is fast becoming the norm in car sales. |

Game 7 - There is No Tomorrow with This Sales Opportunity
| |
| Don't turn opportunities where there IS a tomorrow into a desperate, "How much of a price concession do we have to make?", last ditch effort to close it today scenario, but do turn a customer/prospect-initiated deadline into a Game 7 scenario where you do whatever it takes to earn that business! |

Personal Branding - How To Jump Start Your Home Business
| |
| Though it may sound like a high-concept marketing idea, personal branding is actually a very simple way of selling yourself as a package. This can be done in the same way that one would sell a service or product, with identifying the consumer that you will be selling to, and then figuring out how to best serve their needs. With the advent of internet marketing, usually this is done solely online these days. Both image and branding are best done with the help of a marketing professional if one is just starting out. A virtual assistant could be a very valuable tool towards helping a person promote themselves online.

Creating an Extraordinary Organization
| |
| If everyone would like to work in a thriving, enlivening and nurturing environment, why is it that almost no one loves being at work? Why is it that most of us simply acquiesce when confronted by the drudgery and suffering that, according to seemingly every statistical measure, characterizes life within many companies? Is this condition inevitable? Are we destined to an environment where the most we have to look forward to is Friday afternoon? Not at all. There are specific steps that can be taken to begin to reclaim some of the enthusiasm, some of the air of celebration and some of the fundamental respect for individual human dignity that is apparent within flourishing business organizations or on championship teams. |

The Amazing Power of Deliberate Focus
| |
| Isn't it amazing how masterful we can become at denial, procrastination, and avoidance, constantly making excuses for why we aren't accomplishing the goals WE SAY WE WANT! A lot of energy gets wasted in this department. Usually there is far more talking and not enough doing. Far from criticizing, I believe many people generally have good intentions. Though it's maddening when I hear someone say it... I just don't have time... I honestly believe they think they don't have enough time or can't have it all. |

Trading and Profit and Loss Account
| |
| It is the summary of such accounts which effect the profit or loss of the concern. These are prepared by transferring from the trial balance all nominal accounts and accounts relating to goods by means of journal entries called 'closing entries'. All remaining accounts i.e. real and personal, relating to properties, assets, debtors and creditors are shown in the balance sheet. In order to know the overall picture of the effect of these accounts they are grouped at one place. Items' increasing profit (revenue) are put on one side (credit) and those decreasing profits (losses and expenses) un the other side (debit). The balance is either net profit or net loss. This income statement is normally divided into two parts - first part is called trading account. |

Leading Leaders
| |
| Dr. Paul Hersey probably best described the phenomenon of leading other leaders in his work on Situational Leadership. Dr. Hersey clearly identified different skill sets related to managing and leading people based on their skill set and based on the particular leadership situation. His groundbreaking work identified some of the possible disconnects when leaders utilize the same skill set to manage leaders as they do when they supervise entry level workers. In his model, when leading leaders, you can no longer be directive, use a cookie cutter approach and overly define the process details and steps. |

Are You Too Smart to Succeed
| |
| When we worked in our educational consulting business in Germany many years ago, parents came to us because their kids were not able to get the grades they wanted. When working with these children we saw the following scenario played out over and over again.
These children weren’t slow learners or stupid, they were actually too smart.
When taking an exam these brilliant students would see so many complex ways to answer test questions that their answers were far too complicated. The teachers who evaluated their test could not make sense of these advanced answers and the students received failing marks as a result.
Similar to these children many business owners do not realize how much more they can accomplish when they simplify their thinking and focus only on one idea at a time. |

Employee Policies About Blogging & Electronic Communication
| |
| Blogs and blogging are a fascinating social phenomenon and employee policies and procedures generally have not kept up. Blogs are similar to on-line bulletin boards. People use blogs as a way of self expression, saying what they think or feel about a topic or an issue, or in response to someone else’s thoughts. Many people have their own personal blog to journal their day or their lives.
It is also an interesting phenomenon that people feel more “open” when communicating via email, text or a blog. By this I mean many people use the process of writing as a form of “dear diary” or therapy. They put their deepest thoughts and feelings down without pausing to think or reflect on the impact their words may have on others. They respond instantly, without many of the usual social niceties coming into play.
